Match Thread Match thread: Sydney Swans v Carlton March 5 2026 07:30 PM AEST @ SCG

I'm officially excited and I hope no one minds if I kick off the match thread. I'll be off to the SCG in 4 hours or so.

It's warm (high twenties), sunny and fairly humid in Sydney today. No rain forecast, nothing too sinister on the radar, but it wouldn't surprise me if a storm bubbled up later in the evening.

No changes to either side that I'm aware of, as of right now.

    The AFL preview:

Australian Football League. All the latest AFL news, video, results and information

The Squiggle tips (and most others) going for the Swans:

27 models give Sydney a 52-78% chance of victory over Carlton at the S.C.G. on Thursday with an average tipped margin of 13 points, but Squiggle gives Carlton a 50% chance with a margin of 0 points.

Will we see a Gulden bullet to Curnow's chest and a goal? I hope so!

Squiggle is actually tipping Carlton to win by 1 point lol.

Glad to hear the weather sounds like it is pretty good and most likely good for the game. Hope we have a good first up win, but just getting the 4 points and a decent performance would be perfectly fine by me.

Personally, I'm pleased that you've kicked off the match thread, as I usually only do it if it's five minutes to kick off and nobody else has done it.

I'd be a bit disappointed if there was only one instance of Gulden hitting Curnow on the chest. Though I'd settle for one, if he hit McDonald, Amartey or Heeney multiple times.

Carlton have their backs up and a lot to play for. We have three Ex Swans playing in today's match for the blues. So, for some a grudge match maybe. They are pumped the Blues, so we will have to be on our game. Have to leave the preseason games at the gate tonight and get incredibly serious. I want to see grunt, power, grit and talent shine through. I want to see players give effort even after they have vomited in pursuit. At the same time I want to see our boys enjoying themselves, and there is no better way of enjoying a game than with a win.

Stoked that footy is back and I can’t wait to see Curnow in the red and white! I reckon he might pop up to kick the first goal of the year. We’ll see…

the lack of pressure and composure by our players is very disappointing

The defence looks awful. Skills rusty...Oh dear....footy's back indeed....Has Logan had an effective possession yet?

Perhaps the team has had a few wines, as well. Very fumbly, missing so many targets.

Did we practice any skills over the summer? How many tennis like 'unforced errors' did we make in the first quarter. I guess we can't get much worse, but by gee that was terrible.

Oh well, I guess that we can only improve from here. Not sure if I've seen so many basic errors in a quarter?

                        Very fumbly

I think it's one thing to he run and gun but have to get the ball first, getting exposed in the opposite direction

They look very slow...Chad at least seems to be able to hang onto the ball. I think our class will tell in the end if we don't let Carlton get too far ahead.. Still this is frustrating and disappointing and thank heavens we're not playing Brisbane.

That's better.. Quite surprised we're only five points behind.
