Disappointing with yet another 1st year player Liam Hetherton missing rest of the season with a stress fracture (3rd in 12 months).

I'm no medical expert, but wonder if this can be anyway managed with training work loads etc or is just plain bad luck?

Latest injury list. With McCartin being listed as 1-2 weeks, I'd assume he won't be playing against North. Also, Bowman isn't mentioned, which seems a bit strange, as it looked like he picked up a calf injury in the VFL match against the Demons. Perhaps he was on managed minutes? Who knows?

And with Hetherton being listed as six months, I'm wondering if that means that we'll be looking to select someone in the midseason draft?

In the latest injury list, it is encouraging to see Gulden is now listed as "weeks" instead of the more indefinite-sounding "months". He is out for another 8 to 10 weeks, but it means we can start circling dates on calendars for his return. Round 17 to 19 perhaps?

Hetherton listed as "6 months" is a little odd. 6 months from now is early November. Unless the AFL is planning matches for Melbourne Cup week, that's more like a season-ending injury and should be listed as such. The only reason I can see is they're not listing it as a season-ending injury in case it isn't one.

I'm concerned that we have too many players whose seasons are effectively over, as this seriously impacts our depth and a wasted year of development for some of the draftees.

We're not the only club, but hope the AFL makes investigation whether the shorten pre-season, playing surfaces and the Origin game is having an impact, as some in the media have suggested.

I hope internally we investigate why in successive years we've had 1st year players missing majority of the season due to back stress fractures and future changes to better avoid them.

Too much weight training for young bodies.

I have to agree with you on everything you said. With the exception of Braiden Campbell, all are young players and they need to be protected. Coming into a professional environment is a challenge in itself and the natural tendency is to create an impression by training hard.
.The shorter preseason would also help
