Strange timing, after their best game in some time despite the loss. I thought it might happen mid-season. The pressure has been immense though - only added to by the Hollands incident I think. Perhaps he's just reached his limit, and fair enough.

I have a little Carlton chart that I update from time to time and it always suggests that Ratten was removed prematurely.

Although, there is a theory that he told the players that he was quitting at half time in the Brisbane game.

It's almost as if Carlton cycles between moderately good and awful on a 12-year cycle, and coaches appointed on the decline part of the cycle don't stay long. On that chart, Carlton peaked in 1999 (Grand Final), 2011 and 2023. If that trend continues, they're not going to peak again until 2035. I pity the poor mug who ends up coaching Carlton in the next three years, they will not last longer than that.
