Changes vs Richmond/Injury List

Sydney has fewer players injured than Richmond, our opponents this week. The depth of the squad is pretty good considering the much-improved VFL performance. I doubt we'll maul Richmond by over 100 points, but banking a decent win would be good.

So we're trialling two rucks without Grundy, which is effectively what has happened with McLean's inclusion.
Also, I didn't appreciate Kyle had only been in the Academy for 18 months. Says a lot about his trajectory and potential.

Cox was interviewed this week, in which injuries were discussed: Changes loom at Swans as injuries start to bite (afl.com.au).
An interesting quotation from the article that everyone should note: "When questioned about managing Brodie Grundy’s workload after a demanding game against Geelong, Cox said that while mid-season soreness is common across the competition, Grundy is feeling good and preparing to play against the Tigers.
Should Grundy require a rest at some stage, Cox expressed full confidence in VFL ruck Peter Ladhams to step up, adding there's a possibility of playing both rucks in the same side at some stage."
So Cox may choose to play both Grundy and Ladhams at some point. I think the recall of McLean may be a prelude to this."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

Im not calling for Grundy to be rested, im calling for Ladhams to be played with him
If he plays Grundy solo again, ? i believe he is a @@@@wit
Glad they are trialling the 2 rucks and 3 tall fwds, about @@@@ing time👍 1Comment

They are flying now but they have had a few out early, fairing better than most I'll give you that
Danger, Miers, Martin, Cameron a few other missed a game here or thereComment

Glad they are blooding some youth< Kyle is interesting having watched all season in the 2s he looks like a mile off it - but he is rated highly so guess the best way to learn often is to be thrown in the deep end.
Would be nice if we use a 2 ruck system from here on in, watching how effective Geelong was using 4 guys v Grundy to curb his influence I think it’s worth a look. Hanily is the only confusing player in the team for me.Comment

Apart from the @@@@witt part, I totally agree blind Freddy can see having one decent ruck doesn’t work on there own (look at the Collingwood game, the loss of Stein changed the game without that injury we wouldn’t have won) Grundy/Ladhams for me BUT happy if it’s Grundy/Mclean👍 1Comment

The language is how crucial it is to our season

Without Grundy, we may as well look to 2027.
Hopefully Mclean and Ladhams have been told only 1 of you are staying in the team.
Ladhams for me but both would be hungry to impress.
I still believe Ladhams Ruck to Bench is a top 12 Ruck in the comp.Comment

Regarding the ruck situation, Grundy is a workhorse and likes it that way. He plays around 85% game time and is much more valuable in the ruck than as a forward. Ladhams, on the other hand can play forward and split time between forward and ruck. So playing Grundy is a unique situation for us that requires a stand in to allow Grundy to rest for 15% of the game, rather than having him split ruck time with another player. But we can also recogmise that this kind or workload will have a toll on him, so he will need a few rest days during the season. Using Ladhams to fill in for Grundy's rest days is a logical way to go, as as opposed to playing a both together on a regular basis.
When Ladhams plays along with McLean, I look at line up as having 5 KPfs, with one playing in the ruck, and 4 on the ground at any one time, this yielding 80% game time per player. We will most likely see Ladhms and McLean sharing most of the ruck time, but wouldn't be surprised to see Joel and Logan play some minutes in the ruck. It depends on what Cox is looking to see from this combination of players.
I think Hanily remains in the side because we lost 2 small forwards this week and that is his natural position. I also think Cox likes to give young players a stint of several weeks before dropping them Cootie and Corey Warner may have been strong selections, but giving Hanily another week, given the opposition, is not a bad choice.
Our team is still quite strong, despite the injury losses. We still have our spine intact, all our KPPs and most of our our midfield, except for Errol. It's not like we are putting a weak side out to play Richmond. It's probably the right game to give Kyle a go in the AFL, so why not do it?
More than player changes, I want to see how we adjust our game plan to account for our fall off in midfield competitiveness and drop off in our turnover game. We need to adjust our game yield fewer points, even if we score less, as well as getting the edge, both offensively and defensively in turnovers, which will be the key to a serious premiership run.👍 1Comment

I believe that Ladhams can only play as a ruck. He is useless as a forward, not a consistant goal kicker whereas Haydne can play fwd and ruck for the time that Brody needs a break. This week as Brody is being managed the obious choise was Ladhams with Hayden to back up. Hayden is also a more consistent mark than Joel and is a better kick for goal.Comment

Same here, Stevo. After being attacked for saying Harry C was a valued member of the team and using appropriate grammar, I don’t say much anymore. But do read the more insightful posters, such as yourself among others. Missing Liz, her comments were always very interesting and knowledgeable. Hope she’s OK.

You are right KG- there is never a case for attacking a fellow Swan, even if we disagree vehemently! We are all supporters of our beloved club and differences of opinion are valid and call for healthy discussion.

Question:
How does the Ruck allocation work in the 2's?
I think Green is still injured and I recall some poster saying McLean doesn't ruckComment
