Ted Richards is a third of the way through his first season with the Swans.
At Essendon he averaged about 8 disposals a game and it is up to 10 thus far at Sydney - no real difference there. He's taking 3.6 marks average a game, & he's taken some good contested grabs. On the negative side, his disposal is pretty terrible and he tends to get caught in the headlights a bit, a la his attempted baulk and subsequent holding the ball decision against the Bulldogs. Having said that, I thought his game last Saturday was very good. No one has really kicked a bag on him, but if memory serves me well, he seems to always get at least a couple of kicked on him.
From a different perspective, he came to Sydney wanting to play in the forward line and that has not happened, although he's bobbed up for the odd goal. Seems like he's slotted for a backline role as a tall defender playing on the second or third string forward behind LRT, Leo and B2.
He's probably keeping Vogels out of the team, so one has to consider his performance in that light. Dempster might also be playing more if we had not drafted Richards. Also, one has to ask how he would compare to Saddo doing the same job, but Saddo is not exactly setting the world on fire down at the Blues.
Is he a better long term option that Vogels? Is he living up to expectations? What is his future in the team? Is he Super Ted or Jemima?
