Any other melbourne supporters rember the old days in the early nineties when we played the hawks out at waverley and got flogged every time we played them?

It's good to see the tables have finally turned. Last three times we have played them its been a 60+ margain.

I remember the last game at Waverly in 1999, when the Hawks destroyed us by 85 points. If we had won we would have finished 5th and instead we finished 8th and were smashed by the Bombers in finals the following week.

Biggest AFL crowd maybe. Impossible to be the biggest crowd ever seeing as TS is 30,000 seats smaller than it used to be.

The seating now is the same as it was for the game there v Collingwood in 2004. So we could beat it this year (it was about 72,000)

Unfortunately I remember that game too. My sister and I stayed to the bitter end and then got stuck in traffic on the way to the airport and almost missed our flight home. The best part of the day was the numerous Hawks supporters who wished us luck the following week as they weren't in the finals that year.

I'm glad I read the last few posts in this thread, I was starting to think I'd had more wine than I thought. I was underwhelmed by the performance on Saturday night too. A win by a margins such as that is always good, but the last few weeks have made me greedy for fast, exciting and skill-packed performances.

Indeed a 10 goal result is always great.
I have 1 concern other than Paul Chambers.
I was surprised at how well Campbell did on Hall, either he's phenomenally quick and fit for a ruckman or our disposal to Barry was less than optimal.

Campbell did play very well, but Hall was also injured from fairly early in the game. Hall could easily have kicked 5 goals, which is a fair return.

Not quite, last year IIRC it was 42 and 44 points, or vice versa.

I thouight he was winded, but he took a while to get up and looked a bit dazed for about 10 minutes.

He took a knee to the rib cage. The commentators were wondering about a broken rib.

I don't know about his ribs, but that hit would have slowed anyone down for a while. Watching the game live and then on tv, I got the sense that many of the boys need a rest...they look tired and sore. I have especially noticed that Barry seems to get up very carefully every time he ends up on the deck, like he is sore in the groin/abdominal area.

I hope that it is just my natural paranoia about injuries and not a real concern, but I reckon the break can't come soon enough for some of them.

I remember that one! It was the last game at Waverly! I was pretty down after we got so thoroughly smashed after all the weekend's results went our way for a good finish, but the highlight was watching everyone demolish the ground! I ended up with a piece of turf that still grows in my backyard to this day!

As to the game, I'm with those who weren't totally enthused with it. Bad opposiition made us look quite good, but I think we've got a lot more there and can be a lot better. I hope we see it in coming weeks
