....or put an intravenous (sp) drip in a 2 1/2 year old. Sitting still does not come naturally in that situation.

I think super glue was originally invented for that purpose.

The reason we were slow to start was as Roos said - we were 4 weeks behind the rest of the teams on fitness.

When you are not quite fit enough those little things are so much harder to do. They were trying alright and probably playing for the team, they just didn't have the fitness edge.

Played 9, won the last 5, case closed.

Just the way they seemed to be calling screaming 'me, me, me' with their actions. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing, because they were trying to help. But in a team it doesn't work. For anyone, and that's what other teams continue to miss each year.

After spending the summer as premiers the self-belief may have grown a little above the reality. e.g. Leo's last touch of 2005 was as spectacular as his first quarter of 2006 was abysmal. He's spent all summer dreaming about speccies.

Then again, I think the match fitness theory is sound.

Match fitness didn't seem to affect West Coast. And surely the extra week that Adelaide had wouldn't make that much difference either.

I just thought we were playing with 24 men, with the addition of Robert Lewis-Thomson and Luke Bolton...

Exactly. Last year gave the Weagles a little taste and they couldn't wait for 2006 to start so they can get on with attempting to win this years flag.
Our boys obviously weren't that desperate at the start of this season.
