Mathews has to go. How blind is Paul Roos to not see what everyone else does - he almost cost us the game.

Bloody lucky. Like WCE yesterday, we need to learn some lessons from this great escape.

What an example that we actually are a great team...if you know what I mean...no way we would have won that game in previous years.
        IMO,
        we saw the real Richards...ordinary
we saw the end of Matthews as a first choice player...or should have
we saw the difference that a 3QT blast can make to Jolly (& probably others)
we saw Leo prove again that he cannot hold his own against FF's on the lead...& that one day some of us will have a heart attack watching him trying to avoid trouble...but I still love him
we saw LRT demolished for the first time this year & a seeming inability to do something about it
we saw a great run & gutsy midfield work from Ablett...well done Luke!
we saw positively the worst umpiring display I have seen in over 50 years & the commentators barely noticed
we saw MOL demonstrate again that something is seriously wrong with his kicking...that backwards effort at the start of the 3rd quarter was very strange with the wind
Plus some great play from many at times.
Enough to send me to bed happy!

I agree with slowing the game down when we are running INTO the breeze in the 2nd quarter, especially when you are in front DUE TO the strong breeze advantage in the first quarter (this was clearly the reason for winning). I would think this would be the automatic advice from the coaching panel to the players, as the automatic advice would be when you are playing in the heavy rain - that's to kick/move the ball up forward in any way possible.

          coaching oversight?

That kick was just in front of us. Clearly he just threw it on his left and it screwed off the side of his boot... Poor call, but not unexpected.

I mentioned at qtr time that the Swans were flat and it nearly cost them. Strange thing is that the wind was just a breeze. It certainly helped a few kicks over the line (they kept hanging) and stoppped them going the other wat, but their was no great advantage - probably made the field half a kick shorter going north. It was great to be an exciting game again - glad to hear they got a spray at 3 qtr time.

From the commentary the wind sounded as though it was really strong and tricky.

It was cold, it was probably a bit tricky, but it was not really strong.

Leo Barry is looking very slow. Thompson easily beat him a few times when leading.

J Bolton really struggled under a heavy tag. Not really used to that.

Seemed that everyone was beaten on the lead today. LRT was poor also.

With Willo out, LRT's underachievement really did stand out.

I thought the problem with our game was poor discipline at times.

                            MOL's back kick in 3rd Q.
LRT running down the clock at 4.30 to go in 3rd Q when about 4 goals down was as dumb as it gets. Then kicked to Roo player.
                            Goodes 50 metre penalty.
The cracker of all, Jolly's handpass to fresh air when clear in the centre in the 3rd Q.
Cant help myself, one more, Mathews "brilliant" clearance to a North player for a turnover to Grant in dying minutes.

However, all that said, to come back against what was clearly a 3 goal+ breeze showed that we are a quality team. When we were 32 down with breeze I thought we were gone.

Sitting there thinking, "are we front runners"?

We were caught out for height in the backline many times. I think North seemed to get their talls back late in the game to try to save the game, so we in some way were spared this problem in the last Q.

As Roos said in the post match interview on 9, hopefully that is our "flat" game out of the way and it was good to simply win even though we were down.

Barry Hall, Goodes and Kirk supurb!!
LRT should never kick on the run!

A good fighting win despite looking down and out for quarters 2 and 3.

                                Go Swannies!
