Goodes had a magnificant last quarter, he is an absolute gun.

Time for Schmidt and Moore to come in to the team, we need to give more of the kids a run.

Would drop Mathews and Dempster (I'm sorry but he just exists and doesn't actually do anything).

Yeah, he goes for crazy runs but 9 times out of 10 they pay off and he draws the man and sets out play from the backline. That is the way he plays.
      9/10...? I doubt that...

He was beaten off the mark not just on turnovers, but when the ball came in through deliberate buiild-up..

Thank christ the trip to Canberra was worth it in the end.

Lucky win is all i can say, but we showed great grit to climb back and snatch the win.

Goodes was lazy in the first half IMO but only really picked up when the game was there to won.

        Bazza you star.

Mathews is a real thorn in our side now...one day it'll bite us in the arse.

LRT was beaten for the first time in a long time.

As some have mentioned already, I just can't believe how much Nicky D is ignored Even my husband, who only half watches the games commented on it.

          Other points from the game:

          - Our whole backline looked pretty ordinary. Terrible umpiring decisions aside, we didn't look like the reigning premiers back there.

          - Bazza is a star. We would have been in all sorts of trouble without him down there.

          - Mickey O is an instinct player. If he has to kick for goal in instinct he has a much better chance than if it's from a set shot.

          - Schneider does alright in the forward line. Then again, the Ch 10 commentators still give him credit for half of Monty's work.

          - I thought Lukey had a good game too. Maybe that belongs in the L Ablett appreciation thread though.

That's all I can remember right now.

Than again, some supporters still give Ch 10 credit for half of Ch 9's work!!

That equals Bam Bam being acknowledged a few times in the match yesterday for B2's efforts. Funniest moment when they were like O'Keefe kicks forward and then a kick later O'Keefe marked

I spotted that one too. We thought that Schnieds/Monty and CBolts/ROK had a very good game. It was like they were in two places at once.

Am I the only one to notice that Bazza has improved on contested marking? In the Vs Roos, game, it appears that he is developing an answer to double tagging by opponents with one at the back and in front, both "crashing/squeezing" onto him. He appears to "kick the opponent in front outwards" when he jumps to mark, just enough for him to mark with ease. The back opponent was not troubling him in this case. He should use this more often to stamp his authority & demoralise opponents.

This techinique was used often againsts us in the past to the opponents advantage. It's time that we catch up with this advantage as it is clearly accepted by the umpire. Currently, there is a Richmond(?) guy doing this kind of mark in every game lately, with one on us as well - umpires accept this marking and allow tolerance of it eg in a rather too early jump by Goodes , knocking the opponent in front (in Vs Roos games).
Even if the marking person is all over the opponents back, shoulder - climbing or even if the jump touch the opponents head, jump crashing onto the front pack with the the clear intention of grabbing the ball with the right jump timing, this kind of marking appears to be legitimate. This rule ought to be exploited fully by all tall and strong players. This could mean the difference of winning/losing if the marking is done at the best kicking-for-goal spots. It will lift the team, change the course of the game as they are often spectacular marks.

The eye surgery was certainly a success.

Plus he's allowed to hold the jumper of his opponent now.

Watched the game from an unusual position (for me) - behind the goals and much lower down than I'm used to. Also couldn't see the big screen so a lot of the game was just a blur of red and blue in the middle of the ground. Haven't watched the replay yet and expect my impressions will be very different when I do.

For the middle two quarters it just seemed like the whole midfield was on the back foot. I couldn't really tell who was good and who wasn't in there - the Roos just kept clearing the ball. The defence also looked slowish, but I think that was because the Roos were bringing the ball in very well. David Hale brought down some fantastic marks. LRT was certainly beaten badly but Hale played exceptionally well against him.

Other than Hall, who was clearly outstanding, I thought the most constructive players throughout the game were probably the hobbits. They looked to be working hard back and forward and were trying to create space when they had the ball.

Goodes' game was mixed - lots of the ball but some undisciplined stuff too. That 50 he gave away was just dumb football.

67 out of 121 But then again if nobody will kick the ball to him he becomes a liability.

LRT probably didn't play well as he may have been still suffering the effects of the hard knock/concussion from last week. It was his first bad game of the year - I think he can be excused.

That Manuka surface is made out of concrete.

How many times did we see the ball bounce just before a player, then clear their heads by metres or the ball bounce and turn at right angles and spin away from the chasing pack.

The free against NOG for OOBOTF was ridiculous considering the goat track they played on.
