There are times when there is someone running past as has been done with other players in the past.

Matthews needs to spend some tme in the 2's to prove he deserves a place in the 1's. He was terrible today and there are beter players than him in the 2's busting for a game (Schmidt!!).

Trying to spot up someone down the spine from the back pocket is tantamount to suicide. You are kicking at angles which leaves the HB position opened up like a can of sardines for an easy goal. Have a look at the game. It is a rarity for us to do that. Hell you dont even teach kids to do that.

I am still undecided about Mathews. Sometimes he can be great and really work hard to get the ball inside attacking 50 but sometimes he just makes those silly mistakes, like handpassing to the opponent.
I would say drop Mathews so that some of the younger players (like Schmidt) can have a run in the seniors as well.

Why not change the side? Collingwood are 8-2 and only just made five changes to their side. If changes improve the team then bloody well make them.

Take a look at the WCE's, Adelaide and Collingwood side - The rest of the top four by a clear margin at the moment. Two of them played debutants on the weekend. Adelaide have debuted two players (at least) this year as well. Why shouldn't we bring in Schmidt? He can't remain untried forever.

Mathews is not a key cog in the team, we did not miss him at all when he was out. Schmidt, Willoughby and Moore must play - Mathews is 28 and not getting any better. Lets see what the young guys can do in the big league.

That was his first season. It's not the same as Rioli or Whitnall who have had weight problems for years.

Collingwood can do what they want, resting players willy nilly. We had only one change in the last 10-12? weeks of last season and that served us well enough.

Hard to see Mathews being dropped for any of Schmidt, Moore or Willoughby. Mathews can play as a medium defender and/or tagger and none of those 3 has any real experience in any of those rules. Barring any injuries I really don't see any changes in the coming weeks.

That's exactly why Mathews needs to be dropped. How can the youngsters have any real experience if they are only "experiencing" the 2's. What happens if Ben Mathews retires? They need to have some senior game time so when the time comes for them to have a permanent senior spot, they can be ready.

I'm usually reluctant to heap @@@@ on players, but Benny was truly awful today. I still think he has the potential to be of value in certain games (and today "could" have been one of those games) but he's a liability at the moment.

This week is the first time this year that I haven't tipped Sydney & Benny nearly helped me get the point. Happy to lose the point, tho'.

What happens if a senior player gets injured later in the season. Better to give some younger players a go now than later.
