Top 2 out of reach

It appears the top 2 is now out of reach given we can't win at home and play West Coast at Subiaco in a few weeks.

People have commented on RWO that finishing outside the top 2 didn't matter last year, well winning a PF at the MCG is one thing, but doing it at Subiaco or AAMI is another thing altogether.

We have appalling records in Perth and Adelaide and you wouldn't be confident playing the Crows or Weagles in a PF at their home grounds.

The Swans inability to win at the SCG is quickly undermining our premiership defence.

If we can't play in Sydney, Adelaide or Perth, maybe the Swans need to relocate to Melbourne.

In all honesty top 2 was never going to be within our reach after we went 1 - 3. But 3rd & 4th are up for grabs and we have won before on the road in big finals.

If we finish 3rd or 4th we can give it a shake, just need to be playing at our best come finals time.

you need to lose 4-5 games max to finish on top, i never once thought that we would finish or were a possibility for a top 2 spot.

Especially with the percentage that the top 3 have gained so far.

We need to be practically undefeated at home like the top 3 teams are to be challenging.

If we had won the scg games like the eagles had won their subiaco games we would be 10-1.

Our games against west coast and adelaide coming up will tell us how the preliminary finals might be like.

That's assuming we go top 4, of course. There's only a game and percentage between us and 9th place right now.

Sure we can. Think Crows going back to back in 98.

Top 2 is acheivable. WC arent in the best form at the moment, and we have the mental edge on them.

3rd is definately on the cards, next game could decide it, although I cant see the pies maintaining their form all season.

I seem to recall a similar sentiment about us and Port in 2003, and we all know we were robbed of a home PF birth last year.

Personally I believe this Swans team (as per Paul Roos doctrine) are not a front running team. We are probably more of a chance to win a big game away from home than at home. That's actually a positive in my mind.

After round 11, you're already calling it? Did you see how fast WC fell from top position last year? They were three games clear of the Crows after round 11. After round 12, WC were four games clear of the Crows. The Eagles then notched up a further six wins 'till round 22, but four losses were enough for the Crows to take the minor premiership.

Sydney were 6-5 on sixth this time last year. We're currently 7-4 on fourth, one game behind the Pies and two behind the Crows.

Beat the Pies by 30 points, we take them on percentage. Beat the Crows then we're pretty close to second in my books.

Bear in mind, since Sydney found form and our winning streak started, we are 1-1 at the SCG (up on Dogs, down on Saints). That loss was in pretty horrendous conditions, making any result unpredictable at best.

So, you can't necessarily say we're going to struggle at the SCG for the rest of the year.

Yes, our record's pretty poor in WA, but so too was Carlton's until they nearly pipped the Eagles on the weekend.

In short, I think we're better placed to improve on last year's effort of third place.

Geez Hammo, you were talking of a top 2 finish just a few weeks ago & then I got hammered for suggesting you might be being a bit premature.

I still think you're jumping the gun. No other team is really putting a stamp on the top positions.

• WC have been lucky to get away with wins against struggling sides in the past 2 weeks & they fell in a heap towards the end of last year.
• The Pies have started their June self-destruction campaign (i hope).
• The Crows are on a roll, but their recent games have been against easier opposition. They're looking good to overtake the Eagles for 1st spot (again).

I'm not overly confident, but it's still open (not wide-open, but open).

I said we should be aiming for the top two and was accused of being premature.

I guess West Coast's loss leaves the door open but it remains a regret of mine that we can't dominate the competition a bit more like the Crows and Weagles.
