Aside from the dubious morality of fining a club for promoting cancer awareness with some innocuous armbands, just really very poor management from the AFL.

Typical response from an authoratarian lawyer (AA) who has no idea about public relations, supported by a less than sharp CEO who is renowed for his temper and loose tongue.

To cap it all off, donating the 20k fine to a cancer charity smacks of tokenism.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

Before I heard that the AFL were going to donate the money to cancer research, my husband suggest that Essendon go to the media saying that they object to paying the AFL the money, but would be happy donating the fine amount to cancer charities. Same result in the end, but the AFL just look petty and as if they're trying to save face now.
