    Stamp Your Authority

We are now enetering the business end of the season and we need to cement a position in the top 4. The club needs to get its team selection right, implement a strong game plan and stamp their authority on the field. I believe we are vulnerable at the moment and are displaying some pretty undisciplined football evidenced by the fact that we are giving away far too many free kicks. It is apparent that some of the premiership players seem satisfied with last years result rather than determined to go back to back. A danger game lurks this weekend and if we are not switched on, we could slip a couple of rungs down the ladder. We need to iron out the sloppy play and stop skitting contests so we can stamp our authority in the competition.

      Yes sir.

When I run out in the red and white, I will certainly take your advice. I will not allow sloppy play on my part and will stamp my authority. Preferably on a Colliwobble head.

But you'd give away a free kick!

I feel that these comments are kinda harsh. Before the Kangas game we were dominant, winning six games in a row is generally pretty dominant indeed, not many sides can do that in this comp.

So what? We played one poor game, but got away with the win, and then we played the Saints in absolutely horrid conditions, hardly a vulnerable position if you ask me.

People may disagree, but i feel pretty good about where we are, not vulnerable.

I'm referring to the position on the ladder. That's vulnerable!

It's not vulnerable. How is sixth (with a game up our sleeve) vulnerable mid-season? A top four finish is definitely on the cards. Top two, maybe.

On current form, you'd expect the crows to be perched on top of the ladder by season end. A win against the Pies and Eagles will be telling indeed.

A win against the Crows and I'd bet my savings that a top-two finish is almost certain.

Last year, Sydney ran a consistent three wins one loss - three wins one loss ratio. Check the stats.

They love to bounce back after a loss, as it refocuses their attention on what delivered them the premiershp - hard, contested footy and wide spread of team contributions.

We're also seeing exceptional form from the likes of Malceski, Scheider and McVeigh. Barry Hall is in far better form than last year.

As a team, they're fine. We just need some 'root' players like Barry & MOL to step back into their leadership roles. Plus, we need a consistent ruck.

Do that, and they'll be there.
Captain, I am detecting large quantities of win in this sector

So you reckon the next 4 rounds we're not vulnerable? We play Collingwood who are firing, Fremantle (an easy win you'd think), Adelaide who are killing machines and West Coast in Perth. Not sure where you think we are, but we can lose three of these games if we're not careful. I mean the Saints beat us when we were ideally suited to the conditions. They tried finessing in the slosh, and mucked things up. They persistently skit in contests and leave themselves open. It's the blaze attitude that causes the rot.

I think the players should have portable electrodes taped to their testicles so that if they are undisciplined, Roos can send an electric shock to their gonads.

I think if we drop below sixth place on the ladder, then the players should be collectively lashed with a cat-o-nine tails.

If Goodes fails to chase his opponent, he should be pulled from the ground and made to write 1,000 lines 'I must chase my opponent when not in possession of the ball.'

When Leo Barry gives away a free kick, the backline should form a line. Leo Barry will crawl through their legs, and as he passes, the other players will remove one footyboot and belt him over the arse with it (studs out).

If Ben Matthews commits a skill error he will be immediately shackled to a goal post and left there until the completion of the round ("contemplate this on the goal-post of woe").

If LRT gets pinged for holding the ball, he should be made to eat the deflated ball after the game.

If Chow-Chucker posts another critical authoratarian rant, he should be made to write a personal apology letter to Paul Roos and the players
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

Perhaps a new choice of vocab is required. Every game must be approached equally, they are all worth the 4 points. According to that, everytime the team plays, they are 'vulnerable' to losing, but isn't that the idea of sport?

Finessing in the mud? How about 'beaten by a better side in the conditions on the night'?

If you over-analyse things anymore, your head may explode, and that could prove messy.

I like these ideas. You should present them to the club who "need" to get the team right, and there should be further punishments as appropriate for anyone else who gives away a free, not just Leo.

If you think my posts are critical then perhaps you need to pay another visit to your psychiatrist (who has their hands full by the look of things). If you cannot tell the difference between an objectionable view to straight out criticism, then you are beyond help.

Try letting go of those sensitive marbles you described above and perhaps you will not have the excruciating outburst you have just displayed.

You are right, your views are objectionable.

                          objectionable

adj 1: causing disapproval or protest; "a vulgar and objectionable person" [syn: obnoxious, unpleasant] 2: liable to objection or debate; used of something one might take exception to; "a thoroughly unpleasant highly exceptionable piece of writing"; "found the politician's views objectionable" [syn: exceptionable]

                          Edit:
Actually, I thought your Goodes post was quite well done. This one was pretty silly though.

I don't have a problem with critical posts, I just think yours are full of rhetoric and clever terminology, with little in the way of substance.

Yes, we're entering a vulnerable phase but our position right now, or our starting point is strong.

You seem to imply a discipline problem. You tell me how, other than things like 'bad free kick counts' and 'authority stamping'?

                            1. Sydney play hard and physical, which results, often, in frees against. Not necessarily a lack of discipline.
                            2. Sydney averaged less than 90 points per game last year. We're over 100 this year.
                            3. We continue to use the ball efficiently, with little or no reliance on any one player, particularly when it comes to goals. Take a look at our percentage and compare it to last year.
                            4. Players like Goodes and Schneider are fast becoming (or already are) extremely difficult match ups for any opposition. You crow about Goodes' form. His job is to confuse and confound. He has no real position. You can't categorise or pigeon hole this guy.

The reason why I'm replacing rhetoric with stats is because you said yourself we need to want a back-to-back premiership to get it. I say to you our performance is far superior to last year, which says to me they have nothing other than a second flag in mind.

One more thing - I'd throw at least five other points forward if my post wasn't so long

Appreciate the debate though cow kicker.
