    So, McVeigh

Tagged Bell for the first half before Kirk went to Bell, I think.

Then what happened to McVeigh? Did he go forward?

I didn't like his game tagging Bell at all.

I don't know what his specific role after that was. He didn't do particularly well as a tagger. I still think small crumbing forward is his best spot, with occasional moves to the midfield.

Has to be a wing type floating between h/f and midfield

however that said he has done some tagging up until now and not noticed to the same extent of Kirk or Crouch. He and Ablett have both been playing reasonable tagging roles, doesn't look much to watch and doesn't end up with great stats buthe could develop this side of his game.

Overall I think Roos loves the defensive midfielder (tagger) since he doesn't think much of our comparitive quality. Attention should go to Fosdike (as an outside midfielders), his role is to be damaging and should learn from Schneider and Davis who have developed into being outside midfielders who can hurt not just sit in the forward line and kick goals.

I totally agree, and he will just ge better at it with time. I think he has kicked a goal in nearly every game this year. But i refute others on this site who have put him in the Ben Mathews trade bait basket. This kid has a real future with us i reckon. He was playing ok last year until he lost a bit of form and did his groin, but he has really gone from strength to strength this year.

When McVeigh has the ball, he usually does something useful with it, and is starting to look very comfortable around goal, which is an area that he let himself down in last year.

Now he needs to use that famed endurance of his to get to more contests and therefore get the pill more often, though he also needs to be licence by the coaches to play such a role.

The way he, Schneider and Malceski are coming along suggests the team should have a little class in its midfield over the next 4 or 5 years. Now we need to find someone else who can win the pill in the rough stuff in the middle.

Maybe, but it's a bit premature to be basing our hopes on a guy yet to play senior football.

Moore's ahead of him at the moment and he showed glimpses of very clever hands last night, albeit in the forward line. Would be nice to see if he can do the same from the bottom of packs.

McVeigh is not a tagger. Full stop. It seems in the Roo's/Eade eras all young midfielders have to cut their teeth being taggers.

If McVeigh had been given a bit more freedom in the past, he would have become more valuable a player to us, earlier.

I like where McVeigh is at the moment. In fact, I think our whole young midfield options are very exciting. How long have we waited for that ?!

13.3 coming on and off the bench is an excellent return.

Jarred is our link to securing Mark McVeigh to Sydney next season. Mark is out of contract at the end of the year, and is touted as possible trade bait. Mark's having a good season in a sheizenhausen team, and could well be looking for a move up north. Now there's a quality midfielder!

Is the Ted Richards experience getting to you?

I guess when you look back you see the likes of Steve Taubert, Merv Neagle, Mark Eustice, Ed Considine, Craig O'Brien (was terrific for us), Peter Filandia etc

I still think Mark McVeigh is top quality.
