Originally posted by goswannie14 If looking at reality is naivety, then yes. We need our reserves players to be getting a good solid workout every week, not once in a blue moon.
Seems to me that you've found a brick wall and you're determined to bang your head against it.

Nah, I'm Superman.....sorry got carried away a bit there. But you have to agree that our ressies need a better comp than they are in at the moment don't they? They'd get better opposition from the Leongatha Parrots!

It wouldn't just be a cost for us though. Who will be paying for the VFL clubs to play every second week in Sydney?
It's a good idea but unfortunately unpracticle and far too expensive for clubs which would run on a shoe string anyway.
If having full reserves teams in the VFL was affordable then surely the likes of Collingwood and Essendon would be doing it themselves.
Also, not even the richest club in the land, the Crows, have their own reserves team so I doubt this idea is seriously on the radar.

It actually has nothing to do with cost but the VFL's decision that AFL clubs could only play their reserves in the VFL under original clubs to retain the tradition of the compertition.
So even if we wanted to enter our own team and we paid for our opposition to come to Sydney, it would never happen due to the stated desires of the VFL to retain their identities.
Only way we can go back into the VFL is if we came to an agreement with an existing club to lend out 12 or so players on a weekly basis.

What about if we went back as "The Swans"? Afetr all isn't there a Geelong team in the VFL, they weren't in the renamed VFA when it was renamed, although Geelong West was up until the 80's.
Originally posted by elroy67 What, they're going to play in the Geelong league? It takes as long to fly Sydney-Avalon as it does to get a bus Avalon-Melbourne.
Must be a slow bus, I can get to Avalon from Pucka in under 1 1/2 hours, and I have to do it on Sunday morning to get there by 7.40 am.

Well, maybe I drive slow. It takes me about 35mins to drive to Avalon from Essendon, and we are about 20 mins to the city.
Edited to add: I'll seek you in Sydney on sunday. Only 10 mins to Tullamarine from Essendon!
