Doin' it for the team - or just a little bit psycho? (Merged Threads)

    Kirk goes nuts

When he returned to the bench seven minutes later his personality had become aggressive which is totally out of character for Kirk, who said last year he was "practising Buddhism in my everyday life".

In a game against West Coast at Subiaco a few seasons ago Kirk was momentarily KO'd and when Gibbs ran out to assist him the dazed midfielder threatened to punch him.

"He cocked his arm to throw a punch at me," Gibbs said. "He didn't throw it, he just didn't want to leave the field and he was prepared to belt anyone who was trying to take him off which at the time happened to be me.
Clearly the reason he came back out of the rooms was to inspire his team mates. Has nothing to do with the wiring getting shaken a little loose at times, nothing at all...

Nice sequence showing Kirk get kicked in the head.

Regardless of what you think about Kirk, I hope they just give him a rest this week. I thought giving players a week off after concussion was pretty much a given. No point risking further injury when there are other midfielders (ie. Spriggs, Schmidt) who deserve a go.

I agree, it was a pretty nasty knock, and if it took him a few days to return to "normal", then he should do the "team" thing an take a voluntary rest.

                Makes sense.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I dunno, I'm pretty excited to see Kirk with a bit of mongrel about him.

Some years ago if was AFL policy that if anyone had concussion they had to have a week off. It was prompted by players using concussion as a defence in tribunal cases.

It was. But the AFL dropped it, and just said you cant use concussion as an excuse at the tribunal.

In a lot of ways I'd love to see them bring it back for safety reasons - although you can't predict how a concussion might affect a player really, it just seems like sense to give them a week off after what is essentially a brain injury, albeit a relatively minor one.

In Italy, if you brake a nail you are out for the season.
