On at least 5 (maybe 6) ocassions on Saturday night Sydney players were rightly pinged for holding the ball due to slow disposal or pulling the ball in under them. I think Eski was the worst offender. Its not good enough. Hopefully it's on the coaching panel's list of things to raise today with the team, along with accuracy (again) in front of goal.

I would think the coaching staff has instructed the players to keep the ball in as much as possible. I can't imagine all the players would have a natural volition to drag in the ball. -

I thought LRT was hardly done by when pinned for holding the ball but we do need to do something about because it happened way too many times.
The umpires are hot on it one match then the next they arn't. We choose the wrong night to do it I guess.Forget about Hall, it's all about Bradshaw

He got fairly tackled, taken to ground & had a port player laying on top of him appealing for 'holding the ball'. LRT did the best thing he could do by just laying there because he could'nt do much else with someone else basically laying on top of him. The umpire should have balled it up, im a field umpire myself & would have done that.Originally posted by NMWBloods

I do think though he needs to dispose the ball more quicker but in that instant he got hard done by.

Some of these are not justified but I reckon the umps see the amount of times we do sit on the ball and will penalise us more because of that record.
It just seems so obvious on a lot of occasions it's almost as if the players have been instructed to sit on the thing. When it happens it just seems a bit weird.Comment

Umpires will be more lenient if the player does make a reasonable attempt to move the ball out. If you lay on the ball like a dead walrus they will ping you every time, we do this so often as I said above it's as if the players have been instructed to do it.Originally posted by sydneyswans1989

Yes it was frustrating that the regulars got called for HTB but is it too much to ask for that they at least make a concious effot in trying to get the ball out (using excessive force like attempting to punch the @@@@ out of the ball) instead of surrendering once tackled to the ground.Official Driver Of The "Who Gives A @@@@ As The Player Will Get Delisted Anyway" Bandwagon.

The whole point is he didn't do the best he could do. He should have tried to make the appearance of an effort to get it out. He just lay there - always a free kick. You can still make an effort when someone is lying on you, and you have to when you've already had a chance to do something.Originally posted by sydneyswans1989

If someone is lying on you, should that be in the back?Originally posted by NMWBloods

This is the rule that constantly confuses my poor NRL born and bred husband. I don't blame him either. The interperatation of in-the-back seems to change from game to game, or sometimes even DURING a game. Very frustrating.Originally posted by goswannie14
