    Spida out for season

OK, now this gets really interesting for the Swans.

Spida Everitt required surgery on his ankle and will miss the rest of the season.

The Hawks doctor has admitted he has been severely restricted since round 10 - only playing and training 30% of the time.

No doubt our medical staff will be on top of the injury and how serious it is and whether it will fully recover. I believe they will have the final say on whether we go for Spida at the end of the year.

It is clear that Sydney want Spida and Spida wants to come to the Swans, however Roos will want to know that Everitt can give at least two quality seasons.

EDIT: Can't find a link yet - will post when it comes up.

    Very interesting!

Given Spida's age, this injury concern, and the reputed value of the contract that he wants, surely the Swans would make DAMN sure he is physically in top shape before any contract is offered.

short term fix or go for youth & development
Our midfield read the play well enough to negate ruck deficincy
Big men (slow) are not for the future

I'll be disappointed if we use a draft pick on a 33 year old ruckman. Could cope with him coming via the PSD of course.

Spider must be wondering himself if his gamble has paid off - instead of a guaranteed 1 yr he may now have a full-time career in media. But from the Swans' perspective better for him to have the surgery now & be right for the pre-season!

He said in the press conference that he didn't know if he could live in Sydney.

Excuse me, rewind please. Our midfield has been abyssmal at reading the centre bounces this year. Have had the odd blinder but have copped some severe canings by opposition midfielders at clearances.

It not so much the ruckmen but the midfielders inability to pick the taps. Too busy worrying about tagging someone.

He wouldn't need to run much on the SCG. We should pick Spida up for our SCG matches and a few others - aim to play him 13 or 14 matches a season plus finals. That way we can hopefully prolong his career to another 2 or 3 good injury free years.
I would only resist the move if Donkey returns for the rest of this season and carves up the comp injury free.

Sincerely hope the Swans don't pick up Spider Everett. For me he just doesn't seem to fit the Sydney mould - whatever that might be but whatever it is Spider IMHO doesn't fit it! I just don't like him. Maybe the tatts will clash with the red jumper.

The Swans did a similar thing many years when they (to my mind) inexplicably got that little , can't think of his name, from Adelaide ,sounds like McDermott but it wasn't Mcdermott, Mac-something I think. Little rover bloke. Appeared in a KFC or Lone Star ad with Plugger. He was 33 or around that age too.
Swans realised they had made a mistake and paid his contract out before the season even started.

If that is McGuiness you're referring to, I don't think he was ever on the list. IIRC, the Swans were intending to take him in the PSD but the AFL ruled that they couldn't participate because there was insufficient room in the salary cap. He kicked up a stink because he reckoned the Swans had made him a firm committment.

I want him in the team. He is a character, and not nearly as 'tainted' as the Melbourne media make out. Just like Bazza.

I'd rather milk Kiwi cows than move to Sydney: Spida

"I'd never move to Sydney I don't think," he said today.
