BOG next week will seal it i reckon, even maybe a 2 vote game could get him there.
How many more votes would Goodes need...

Looking back at who RWO nominated as the best in the match reports, he was in the best one or two in the wins against Brisbane (x2), Melbourne, Hawthorn, Richmond (x2), Kangas and Port.
He also has some chance of votes in the losses to Geelong and West Coast and a very very long shot in the Saints and Essendon losses.
If the umpires agree, that should put him around the 20 votes or so with one more to come. He'll be in the mix, certainly, but no-one can say it's in the bag.Comment

Brad Johnson really should give the Brownlow a shake this year.
70 goals for the H&A season plus 20 possessions per game is a spectacular effort.
He'd be looking at around 20-22 votes I reckon.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

I think Goodes will definitely need some votes against the Blues to get him over the line.
Concern is, he doesn't normally play too well on the confines of the SCG. If only this was a Telstra Stadium or MCG match...Sanford Wheeler 4 President!Comment

Still, I went through each Bulldogs game and Johnson is a chance of around 20 votes or so.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

If the Swans are comfortably in front at half time watch Goodes be moved off the ball in the second half, and spend most of qtr 4 on the bench. No superstars in this side kids.Comment

I personally think one more BOG and a 1 or 2 vote-game from the remaining rounds should be enough.
The clash with the Lions appears to be the most likely game in which Goodes will do well. He seems to always step up against Brisbane and will enjoy the space and freedom of Telstra Stadium. For some reason, his performances have been down in the close confines of the SCG this year, or maybe that is just the opposition.
Thoughts?
IMO, Goodes will poll something like this:
Round 6:
3 votes
Round 7:
1 vote
Round 9:
3 votes
Round 10:
2 votes
Round 15:
2 votes
Round 17:
3 votes
Round 19:
3 votes
Round 20:
1 vote
Round 21:
3 votes
Round 22:
3 votes
TOTAL:
24 votes
Sorry, had to edit above, realised I missed a game. That total sounds a bit better.
I'd appreciate everyone's views on these games and differing opinions on how many votes Goodes did poll. Obviously many of them were played a long time ago and I'm not sure how accurate my recollections are.Last edited by JudesaGun; 4 September 2006, 09:01 AM.Sanford Wheeler 4 President!Comment

DOESN'T NORMALLY PLAY TOO WELL ON THE G
Mate, are we watching the same game at the same time?????
Goodsey was at his superstar best yesterday against Carlton.
BRING ON THE BROWNLOW!!!!!Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

My post says "he doesn't normally play too well on the confines of the SCG" not the MCG.
And this was posted BEFORE the Carlton game.
By the way, when was the last time Goodes was BOG at an SCG game aside from yesterday's match? I honestly can't think of one in recent times.Sanford Wheeler 4 President!Comment

Thanks Gentlemen, I realise that the comments were made before the game on Sunday, but IMO I don't think Goodsey's had a bad game all year.
I also realise that the game was played at the SCG but I've always fondly called the SCG the "G" as well.
Thanks again.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Actually, I think Goodes has played a few poor games this year (obviously not too many), and only really 2 good ones at your "G" this year (vs Saints in Round 11 and Carlton yesterday), which was my point.Sanford Wheeler 4 President!Comment
