Sydney should play all their away games in Canberra.

We will become the most frequently travelled team if we only have 11 home games, while WC and Freo will remain the teams with the most travel time, and it seems each has its own impacts. New research has also shown that compared to the least travelled clubs (i.e. Essendon and Pies) there looks to be a distinct difference in things like injury recovery rates - it looks like injuries suffered at non-home state venues tend to take longer to heal up because of the differences in treatment availability initially - compare 18 matches in home city/state to 11 - 7 matches and it can be a HUGE difference.

Would certainly explain why Brisbane, Port, Adelaide, WC and Sydney have found it so hard to be dominant forces in the last 5 years or so...

But our record interstate is up there with the best in the league these days. Games in Perth are usually close affairs these days. We can win in Adelaide. Brisbane are our bitches; we win there each year. And I'm sorry but with next to 50% of the crowd at games in Melbourne games at the G & Dome are in my view hardly away games as well.

It is a Bulldogs home game, so Eade is right that they may as well not give us a free kick by playing it in our own back-yard. They'll get money from the AFL for playing at Manuka, and a game in Canberra is reachable to a greater portion of Swans supporters than one in Melbourne is (Even that doesn't help our Melbourne-based fans though).

As much as Manuka is a silent hole, I can live with having to play games there. I'm just waiting for the day we have to play the first ever AFL game in the SNOW!

I remember watching a really funny debate on here where people were insisting that if the Doggies game was not at the SCG it would 'have' to be in Melbourne.

Looks like neither the AFL nor the Doggies consult this site !

No, it is of far greater benefit to AFL in general to have a more even competition, whereby teams do not sell home games to the away team. At least in Canberra it is relatively neutral.

Surely we need to address the integrity of the competition as a whole before looking at benefits to a particular geographic area.

The answer to Sydney is a second team, there should be no short cuts that further reduce the integrity of the competition.

There is no integrity to the competition when one team travels away from home 11 times out of 22 and another travels only 4 out of 22.

But half the sides are in Melbourne. Geelong have always travelled more than Collingwood.

In the good old days it was considered a decided disadvantage to travel 40 minutes down Geelong Road for an away match. It was almost a conceded match.

Geelong always travelled 9 times a year. Could this be the real reason why they have not won a flag for so long. Indeed they still travel more times than any other team.
