Sydney should play all their away games in Canberra.

To be fair, most of that research is surely based around the impact on the Perth teams having to fly 4+ hours every other week. You would think that the travel to Melbourne or Canberra for one extra game a season is unlikely to have any significant impact on players' longevity.Comment

New research has also shown that compared to the least travelled clubs (i.e. Essendon and Pies) there looks to be a distinct difference in things like injury recovery rates - it looks like injuries suffered at non-home state venues tend to take longer to heal up because of the differences in treatment availability initially - compare 18 matches in home city/state to 11 - 7 matches and it can be a HUGE difference.Comment

It is a Bulldogs home game, so Eade is right that they may as well not give us a free kick by playing it in our own back-yard. They'll get money from the AFL for playing at Manuka, and a game in Canberra is reachable to a greater portion of Swans supporters than one in Melbourne is (Even that doesn't help our Melbourne-based fans though).
As much as Manuka is a silent hole, I can live with having to play games there. I'm just waiting for the day we have to play the first ever AFL game in the SNOW!

Surely we need to address the integrity of the competition as a whole before looking at benefits to a particular geographic area.
The answer to Sydney is a second team, there should be no short cuts that further reduce the integrity of the competition."As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. No, it is of far greater benefit to AFL in general to have a more even competition, whereby teams do not sell home games to the away team. At least in Canberra it is relatively neutral.

Geelong always travelled 9 times a year. Could this be the real reason why they have not won a flag for so long. Indeed they still travel more times than any other team.Comment
