This sound awfully like a very similar problem they are having over here.
Oobi Doobi Subi has around 40000 capacity and of course no where big enough. The seats are small and @@@@ house and facilities archaic when compared with modern stadiums.

So.......they are developing a new stadium (currently options being looked at) but most favoured is a new 'green field' site.


In Sydney there is an awesome stadium called......Telstra.... Surely the Swans, AFL, SCG and Telstra can sit down and come to some sort of financial arrangement to allow the Swans to play all games at Telstra during the redevelopment....

I would hate to see the SCG get reduced to 28000 or whatever and people miss out on going to the footy. These people will simply find other things to do like go to the NRL. Surely the AFL and Swans can use this sort of argument to ship games out to Telstra.....

This is crazy. I understand the need to rebuild the stadium an stuff, but surely they need to give a bit of flexibility here.

How many days in the year is there a crowd bigger than 20,000 from cricket?

The SCG trust know they can bend over the Swans given all the investment in training facilities that has been made over the past 5 years.

Does any one know ? How long was the contract signed for and if there was any mention on the contract about redevelopment during the period ? Maybe the swans legal advice should have looked into the contract more thoroughly before the committee signed a watertight agreement.
To the geriatrics of the SGC Trust they should realise that there is Life out side the SCG and Telstra should be an option. Maybe supporters should look at a class action against the SCG trust for inflexability with the venue during reconstructions as genuine supporters will miss big matches.
What about the interstate supporters ??

As before my view is that the Olympic Stadium is no good. OK the brand of footy played there is better, but one thing I do miss (besides the VB - but i get around that by puring some Stones Ginger Wine into the Tooheys) is the place for the members. I sit in the Noble stand and the view is fantastic, I do not get that at the Olympic Stadium. l also miss that after function - and if they did have an after match function it would have to end within half an hour so people could catch the last train. So while the Swans style at the moment is better for the bigger ground, it does not feel like I as a full member is catered for.

You are saying that you actually enjoy those after-matches? As far as I'm concerned the after-matches hosted by Nicksey at Kings Cross > 'guinea pig' after-matches in the MA Noble. Boose at the club is half the price too. Still having said that, finding somewhere for members to go at Homebush for after-matches should be a priority; hopefully not a corridor like they did a couple of years ago.

To me the fact that members can meet up before the game at the Brewery counteracts the fact that members don't have any after-match. The solution to the after-match last train connundrum = more day games at Homebush. The Brisbane match out there went swimmingly well & there was no rush back into town afterwards. When you wanted to come home after a drink at the Brewery, you were ready for dinner and could meet up and make an evening off it.

there are a few pubs on paramata road near homebush that the swans could either buy/rent/squat. In walking distance too, and then there's busses back to the city late.

And the brewhouse before hand - if I meet people before it is at the Concord West hotel. Is the beer at the Brewhouse still in plastic cups?

Generally I meet people after the match to discuss the game.

At the SCG the kids go inside listen to Luff while us adults are outside discussing the game, no rushing to the last train, noone trying to kick you out (Like at Olympic stadium). The kids get to collect a signature or two. Also I am not going t o take the kids out to the Cross on a saturday nite - even when I am at the footy with friends (no family) I avoid the Cross.

If they can overcome these obstacles and provide after match functions at Olympic Stadium, a propoer train service which runs for another hour or so and give me a view equal to upstairs at the Noble behind the big sticks (and still close to the ground) - then I will happily embrace the big white elephant

Gee, there are a few VERY short memories in here!

What about TS?s treatment of the Swans when we got shunted for a RU match, after we already had a prior booking for the ground?

What about a Swans final having to be shifted from TS (to the SCG) to accommodate a RL match?

What about us having to draw around 50,000 to TS just to break-even in the first few years at TS?

Yeah, the joint?s been really great to us.

Where Old Royboy sits at Homebush would have to be one of the best views in the ground to be honest. He is just near the entry door in Bay 119 so is elevated from ground level yet is right next to amenities etc etc. I watched a pre-season match there against Brisbane and was shocked as to how good it was further up the back. This view would be just as good as that from the top of the MA Noble I'd say. (Old Royboys, care to give your comments on this)

Our seats at TS are off aisle 411..bit higher than I like but about the same view as I have in the Brewongle...but I DO like walking ten yards to an area with bar and food all right there..and sitting in a comfortable chair to enjoy the drinks. And the loo is only another ten yards away as well!
From where I live the drive to both is about the same..we are Sydneysider members so get parking at both venues, so for me , there isn't much in it.
I probably prefer the SCG cos of its history, and the atmosphere it can generate with a crowd much smaller than TS; 35,000get a bit lost at Homebush.
Just as long as none of the members at the SCG lose their long held seats during the restoration..now THAT would cause ructions!

I agree that whilst the SCG is being fixed there should be an arrangement in place to allow the games to be played at telstra...BUT...not for the long term,

Guys TELSTRA has NO atmosphere...none...sorry...we have had threads about this before and there is an overwhelming response each time to agree with this...so cut it out! I ahve the ebst seats at telstra and still I prefer the scg...stick with our history....
