I am interested in the argument re after-match functions. How long do the buses run from the SCG for? I don't think they go too long after match-end, so if you are getting a train you couldn't stay long there could you? If you drive to the SCG, then just drive to Telstra, there is heaps of parking - and it's not $15 to park in a paddock!
I hear not what you say, for the thunder of who you are.

This also makes the assumption that the majority of Swans home matches are played at night. Is this the case?

I usually sit in the same row and agree that its a great view, although the row itself is narrow and you always worry that you'll fall down on top of the people in the row in front as you try to squeeze through with your beers.

That whole heritage thing with the SCG is the main problem that it remains such a small, outdated facility.

If all the stands were like the Brewongle and the gound was made even 10m longer then it might be worthy. But as long as the SCG trust mince around spending more effort in enforcing collared shirts than giving a fig about footy, the place will always be the worst ground in the league.

The MGC has more history/heritage than the SCG and look how well it's been upgraded over the years.

what are you doing - giving our position away !!!!!- ORB sits with Aussie Ange and I. I normally have to get there before the gates open to line up to get those seats and fight off a few nasty types as well. The view is good - alot closer to the ground than that at the SCG (we sit behind the goal posts up stairs there too) - but Ange & I are considering going for the allocated seats as the SCG next year - just so as we dont have to get there so early to fight for our usual spots. After far too many years of doing this seat saving thing, and of recent times arguing with the seat nazi's (and yes I know they have a job too do) the redevelopment is what has prompted us to up grade our membership.

But the Swans may be stuck with an iron clad contract that will have them stay at the G full time during the reno's. The Trust are a nightmare to deal with normally, they have the hoy paloy lawyers who are not only members of the SCG, but are on the board of the trust. they normally act gratis - but the Swans legal costs to get out it will be huge. That contract will be binding no matter what. I hope that I'm wrong, but going on past experiences I've had dealing with the trust, they will pushing @@@@ up hill to get the result they want.

The Football club have known about these planned changes to the SCG for over 2yrs .The new grandstand with more function rooms and more private boxes will be completed by start of 2008 season.
why release the information now to the public and start complaining.
If your read colless' comment that he was 'alarmed to learn' , you would think that he has only just found about this.
Our club has a great history of blaming everyone else or runnng for cover when a decision has been made which effects our members/memberships

The SCG Trust , Cricket NSW and swans had signed off on agreeement over two years ago to increase the venue capacity by over 3000.
This also means( which the club fails to mention ) more private/corporate boxes for swans to sell.
More dining room/function room facilities for swans to sell to corpoates sponsors.
So in fact after one season of doing it tough , the club will have increased opportunity to increse revenue

Its not a swans thing, its an AFL thing. The AFL have instituted a culture of handouts, so all clubs who think they may be financially disadvantaged in any slight way, scream hystertically to the media, knowing if they scream loud enough, the AFL will bail them out.

What about a Swans final having to be shifted from TS (to the SCG) to accommodate a RL match?

What about us having to draw around 50,000 to TS just to break-even in the first few years at TS?

Yeah, the joint?s been really great to us.
The Bledisloe thing sucked, but ended up working ok for us. As we got over 44000 to the game. PLUS the AFL got a significiant pay-out from the stealthy ARU so as for the same scenario to never happen again.

The NRL had booked the Friday night date for the Wests Tigers a while before. The AFL demanded a Friday night match for tv ratings purposes. Homebush could have been used on the Saturday night or Sunday, but the AFL didn't want that. The greedy AFL are the ones to really blame here, NOT Telstra Stadium.

Oh, have I ever mentioned that the SCG Trust once burnt the Swans Cheer Squad's flags & floggers?

Our seat at Stad Oz is slightly lower and slightly further back than our Noble Stand perch. But the big difference for me is the length of Stad Oz, (my eyesight is not that great) thus I would much prefer to sit on the wing there.

From a purely selfish POV, I prefer the SCG. I rock up early to watch the magoos so getting a good seat is not an issue for me. (Wardy saves the best one but!) At ? time in the two?s I roll downstairs and have a plate of roast pork of whatever. After the main game, same again, roll downstairs and crack a Crownie. Very civilised for a yobbo like me, At Stad Oz our facilities are the same as general entry and are nowhere near what the Noble Stand gives us.

The last two years I have written the club and asked them why we don?t have the same deal at Stad Oz as we get at the SCG. That is, members reserve ticket holders get access to the Stad Oz members area ? have a look on our game days, it?s ? empty. This would solve mine (and Blinddog?s) gripes about the Stad Oz facilities, but still leaves the catsp*ss they serve as beer and the stupid public transport arrangements to be solved.

How about a left field solution ? upgrade the new Doonside facility to AFL standard and tell them all to get stuffed. As a Westie I would love that.

ps Alex and Ange: I don?t mind saving seats next year (or is my barracking style the reason you are moving?)

There was some talk earlier this year about a ground out in the west that the AFL wanted to develop for the home ground of the second team in Sydney, is that the one you are talking about? Being a Mexican I didn't realy know where they were talking about.

I think the seat nazis are going to be worse than ever next year. They are going to make sure us Swans members aren't preventing their SCG members from getting a decent seat when they turn up 5 minutes after the game has started.

The phrase hoi polloi is Greek. It literally means 'the many' or 'the common'; hoi is a form of "the" ... Using hoi polloi without "the" often sounds clunky in English; ... but ... back to topic .. the Trust is a misnomer as they cannot be trusted! Perhaps I should have said "hoity toity" !!! either way it will be some top QC who the Trust would appoint. And Go Bloods was right - the club knew about this ages ago - the plans have been out for probably over a year to seek council & surrounding residents approval, along with the clubs approval for the upgrade. Perhaps the club didnt take into conisideration the implications with reduced seating when the idea of the upgrade was first discussed. You'd like to think that wasnt the case, but hey when the trust is involved anything could happen.

ORB - I only get concerned when you get so upset with the umpires that I fear you may just burst an artery!!! Apart from my concerns for your mental well being you are damned good value to sit with.

Ange is right - the seat nazi's are going to be really hard next year - and going by whats happening now - there are a number of members who have been sitting in the same spot for eons who are coping a bit of shabby treatment from the SCG Seat patrol.

Appreciate that there are new members and all, however, if they want the decent seat, then they should get there early to get it - dont turn up 5 minutes before the game and expect the best - which sadly a large number of the new people do. But I love the people who stand there and look at you as if to say "the more I stare you down, the more likely you are to get up and move elsewhere and I will have your seat" we get it alot.

It will make for interesting times. It will get worse before it gets better.
