Not really. I just get to go out onto the ground every week (except in Melbourne where I'm on holiday & leave it to the eager locals to do it. )

The ground surface at AAMI has by far been the best surface of all the ground that I have been on over the last month.

They basically had to start pushing the stands out as soon as we had all left. South Sydney were playing their lower grades out there (in front of 8000 heaving fans!) about 14 hours after our game finished.

The grass was mega mega long though. If I wanted to use a dog as an analogy, the surface was definitely an Afghan; long and shaggy.

Brisbane have proven that despite their lack of success over the last couple of years that they are big drawers in Sydney still. But as they go through a rebuilding period, does anyone think that maybe another team should replace them as one of the big 3 Homebush matches? If so, which team do people think would be best?

I wouldn't contemplate West Coast because they are from so far away they'd be asking aliens from Mars to stop over by to bring the away fans across.Plus Eagles fans @@@@ me! The final against them only drew 40000. The atmosphere was kind of lame to be honest as well. Against Freo it were be even worse. A lot of the expats Vics will NOT watch Freo either.

The only team I think the club should contemplate as one of its big three is possibly St Blunda. They are still right up there & generally draw near to a full house most of the time at the SCG. The other traditional big clubs (Essendon, Carlton) are too well down the table these days to generate too much interest. Whilst the SA clubs are kinda meh hype-wise as well.

Richmond - Might as well take a punt on them taking the next step, if they are going alright, big crowd on offer.

Essendon - They are going to be totally wasted at the SCG next year with the lower capacity.

The other option is if we were to make a grand final this year, no matter who it is, play them at Homebush to open the season in '07. Should be able to generate some hype you would think.

And I think it was a mark of how utterly @@@@house the game was on Saturday that they couldn't even get the crowd interested in a mexican wave!

I think that most of our Telstra Stadium games should be against teams expected to play well next year, given that our biggest SCG and Telstra crowds this year have been against those teams. And I think we should play 5 out there in 2007:

Collingwood

St Kilda

West Coast

Adelaide

Richmond, Freo or Melbourne

Good point, might be the Swans way of sticking it up the SCG trust for the lower capacity though!

I think the swans and AFL underestimate the drawing ability of the swans and the Telstra Stadium, I think a lot of general public- casual observers know the only seat they will get at the SCG are under the scoreboard up the back, or at the back of the stands, whereas at Homebush the GA seats are generally every bit as good as the members seating, and the stadium is more accessible.

As for the mexican wave, I was glad it didn't get going properly, and to say that was due to lack of interest in the game seems contradictory to the accepted line of thought that the wave got going last year when no-one was into the footy. On the weekend more people were actually watching the game.

Still, most seats at SA are ordinary for watching the footy. Just too far away.

Love the atmosphere out there though.

I think it was more that everyone was dead asleep until about 10minutes into the last quarter :P I normally hate the wave during play but watching them try so valiantly to get it going was better entertainment than the football at times! You can't tell me that was an entertaining match
