I think Vogels in points to Barry having a rest.

Or more likely, some flexibility until they assess Barry on Satdy arvo or Sundy morning.

Has Davis been named on the ground this year? Has he actually started on the bench this year?
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

The answers to those questions are: Yes, and Not that I recall, but I couldn't count out the possibility.

The relevance of the bench is that when you pick a squad, no-one gets dropped from the named 18 on the ground. So the question is: who from the 7 will go?

Doyle (barring unfortunate accident getting out of the car on arriving at the ground) and Davis are guaranteed to play. Vogels is only listed in case BBBH doesn't come up (or is it only to make Carlton think that BBBH might not come up? Woooo... sneaky). Bevan is a guaranteed dumpee barring unexpected late injury to someone else.

So who's going to be the other unfortunate victim? Dempster is always a chance to be dropped when the numbers get tight, but would be unlucky given that he could easily have spent most of the Brisbane game doing his nails and working on his pout, plus he kicked a ripper of a last-quarter goal.

Grundy was frankly pretty awful last week, but the other time he had a bad one (Port) he bounced back well; and if he gets a guernsey and plays well this week, he'll be developing a name for himself as a SCG specialist.

Could Mathews be 'rested to get more fitness in the 2nds'? (He can't be 'dropped'-- he's part of the leadership group.) You wouldn't put too much money on it, but it's perhaps not as unlikely as some think.

                      Others' thoughts?

Actually when I saw MC I though 'McClaren', now that would have been a disaster!

They are probably waiting to release him on us when we play over in Perth or Adelaide

They wouldnt dare put him out on the SCG. I've no doubt they'll use him if we play in Perth.
