Adelaide-based AFL fans often book accommodation in Ballarat, which is a bit more than an hour's drive from Melbourne.

Sydneysiders may want to look at booking motel accommodtion in country Victoria and then driving into the city on the day.

Ballarat does huge business when a SA team is playing finals in Melb. They usually set a special camping area and run buses to the G for the game, with security patrolling the camping area while everyone is gone.

For Sydneysiders the advice to stay up the Hume a bit is good, but if you don't want to drive on the day consider staying in the burbs and using the train to the G

There is still plenty of accomodation in Geelong too.

It's because they think it's an outer suburb of Melbourne.

After all, south australian's are proof that Tasmanian's travel.

I've never had trouble getting accommodation in Melbourne on GF weekend. It's just a matter of how picky you want to be.

I stayed in Kingsgate Hotel in Rd 19. Basic but it did the job for a great footy weekend.

Seymour is just over an hour from the MCG dopwn the Hume, but I don't know what the accommodation is like. We should rent out some rooms at our house!
