Actually, he did the job required, got dropped, had LRT/richards provide reasonable fill-in value until Doyle was fit.

Chambers was out of the picture long before Doyle came into the side which said to me they didn't think Chambers was giving them enough, even in the absence of a 2rnd recognised ruckman.

    I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

No, he did a quarter-assed effort at the job required until we could trade for a real ruckman.

You choose from Goodes, Richards, LRT, BBBH for rucking duties - even if Torture was available this would be the selection panel's choice as it was for weeks on end before Doyle was fit.

        Actually...

He did the job required (Roos quote, not mine)
We decided to go with one ruckman (Jolly), with Richards/LRT doing 5 mins a quarter to let Jolly rest.
We then decided that this set up wasnt working, so we brought a ruckman back in (this time Doyle as he was avaliable)
I recall Roos saying it was a line ball decision between Doyle/Chambers.

Glad your not on the selection committee.

          In finals:
Goodes isnt allowed to ruck centre bounces.
Richards and LRT would gets slaughtered against the Cox's, Whites, etc, and more importantly rob us of tall defenders which we have very few of.
BBBH as ruck! - There goes our forward structure!

Seems to be very insular. First N.Davis, now Chambers.
Goodness, well Brisbane must have the worst 'culture' in the league by a mile, then, having lost Aker, Leppitsch, Brad Scott in the course of the year, and quite possibly Voss, Mal Michael and Clark Keating at the end of it. Five of them might be retirees who've had a good innings, but none of them were/are incapable of continuing to play for Brisbane if motivated to do so.

Or could it be that each club has to turn over at least 3 players a year; and there are somewhere between 40 and 47 individuals at each AFL club, each of whom have their own issues with motivation, fitness and other priorities in their life, none of which can be completely controlled by a club with the greatest culture in the world?

The aim of the game is to have a team that works as a cohesive unit and pulls together on the field. We have that. Many clubs (for some reason, almost exclusively Victorian ones at the moment) don't. A key indicator of whether you have a cohesive unit is whether you have a significant number of 'top 22' players wanting to leave the club. We don't. Many clubs do. It's never surprising that players from outside of the top 22, who feel they might get a better chance of playing firsts elsewhere (e.g. Saddo, Powell, Fixter), might want to leave-- that's the nature of the beast.

Other stuff is subservient. While I want people to be happy, filled with love and hug each other as much as the next person, a footy club is called that for a reason. You shall know them by their deeds on the field. And the way our blokes work together on the field indicates that there is no problem with the club 'culture' at all. In fact, it's one of the best in the league.

Roos has relaxed his view of Goodes rucking. Every now and then you'll see him rucking centre bounces.

I don't recall seeing him contest the hit-outs at all, but do see him regularly in the centre square at the bounce. I think Roos said he wouldn't use him in the ruck (meaning contesting the hit-outs) but never said anything about keeping him out of the centre square.

Chambers is a dud and it was a waste of a relatively high draft pick on him.

                  Good riddance Torture.

Here Here Captain! Bring me my wine we haven't had that spirit here since 1996!

Seriously, it is an open shut case. Torture was given a fair decent run by Roos, couldn't get his hands on the ball. Roos realised the guy he drafted had the nickname 'unco' for a reason, quietly lets him fall back to the reserves to play out his career in Canberra. I suspect Unco, Donut king, Torture, Sarge, whatever you want to call him had some delusions of playing second ruck for the Sydney Swans (who knows what they told him). When he realised he had been relegated to 9th ruck (Jolly, Doyle, LRT, Richards, Goodes, Shaw, Ericson, [Spida]) he probably decided he wasn't so interested in footy anymore.

I find the whole bloods culture brand thing a complete crock. But sweet Jesus, the guy went 8 weeks without placing the ball on his boot. His best rucktap was the occassion when the ball hit him in the head. The connection between his decision to depart and our silly 'bloods' culture is beyond me.

Sarge, Unco, Torture, Donut King, will go down in the annals of Sydney Swans history as a footnote, comedy relief in the glory era of back to back premierships.

Having said that. Well done Paul, I am sure you are a capital fellow.

Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
