the importance of the win can be looked at the "negative of this win" for debate/avoiding past error sake.

The Swan has done it a few years ago and in last season? (after the mid year break)
Coming back from a week rest, they forgot how to play intensely again.

For the past two years, Swan alway begin in very low intensity/purpose at the beginning of last season & this season. Just maybe, the players are given too much leeway in "resting" or the strategies are incorrect.

A change of training routine is warranted. Perhaps, instead of having a normal game playing intensity of say 10 points(on a scale of 1 to 10) , and average mid week training intensity of 4 points, perhaps the training intensity for this week rest (next 10 days) for one least one "game train session" should be say 7-8 points, instead of 4 or lower points.

We must come out after 2 weeks time, ready to fire from the first bounce up, resume where we left off from Vs West Coast game intensity, not caught napping for first or more quarters, & dont know what truck has hit us.

If we come up firing next preliminaryfinal, then I feel the flag is very much ours to retain in the final as we have the skill/team approach edge, massaged further with confidence pep up talk by coaching/players, over the current prospective final opponents whoever they are.

Melbourne is a massive threat! They have beaten us in Sydney including at Telstra in the past 3 years would rather play Freo. Plus i dont want to have to put up with my boyfriend who is a Melb supporter!

        Nice Avatar!!

A big confidence boosting win. Not only beating a team in the 8 (der) but the team on top of the ladder.

Look Freo or Melbourne will be a threat. You don't make a prelim if your hack side. However if the Swans play well they should have the game at home to prevail over Freo or Melbourne. If I had a preference though I would want to face Freo just so the Prelims are an all non Victorian affair.

at the end of the game when the team was walking off the field he looked really estatic - more so then some of the others. looked like he was 'part of the team'now... bonding more with team mates
i used to call him SOFT as well.. congrats to him for his perforances in last few weeks. agree with others, his decision making skills still a little slow...

I'd go Freo. Dees have a far better record against us in Sydney

A week off could hurt our momentum going into the finals.
Traditionally, the swans don't perform that well after a week off.
                  Scary, eh?
                  Bring on Freo.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Traditionally? What happened in 2003 is hardly a tradition. The only other finals break in most people's living memory was 1996 - and we all know what happened in that PF.

I assume Annie refers to the games after the split round and/or the seasons where there was an odd number of teams.

10 of the 12 home preliminary finalists since 2000 have won and progressed to the GF. The two that have missed out are:

                        - Sydney in 2003, lost to Brisbane.
                        - St Kilda in 2005, lost to Sydney.

Thanks Sanecow ... assumption is correct. That's exactly what I was thinking.
But then again ... this IS finals footy.
                          It (probably/could/might/may/hopefully/potentially) make a difference.
