I thought the drum was good in theory, but every time they'd start a chant and get the rhythm going, the crowd around us would really get into it, only to have the drummer start bashing the thing twice as fast. If it's to keep time so we can all chant and clap along, I think the guy needs a metronome.
I'm not sure what previous poster mentioned it, but I also subscribe to the theory that the pure passion and hatred of the opposition was lacking last night because it was Freo.
It's hard to hate Freo, they've done SFA since they came into the league, there is nothing you can really hate them for, Farmer notwithstanding. Added to that fact, deep down I suppose most of us felt that we would always win last night, so it was always going to be hard to fire up the same way as if we were playing Collingwood or the Weagles.
That said, somebody said the crowd noise is never the same at Homebush.
Well I'm here to tell you, the noise when that goal was kicked (Ablett or Kennelly) just before 3/4 time in the 2003 prelim was like no other. It was truly awesome. I'm almost 50 and I've seen a @@@@@load of all sports in my time and that moment was as loud as any.

Yeah, we kind of chant as if we are on amphetamines at times. Peter often tell me to slow down when just doing the "Sydney!!! Sydney!!!"
Will definitely take that feedback onboard at the GF though Kallias. Denise from the Melbourne Cheer Squad is even going to try and sweet-talk MCG security into getting into the drum up. Benny_W seems to be our number one drummer these days, with SydneySwans1989 giving great support last night.
The chanting lot will be getting their seats in the CS area heaps earlier than last year. We will get seats about 3/4 up the CS allocation so that we don't have the problem we had last year of people telling us to sit down & shut up because they wanted to watch the football.

Originally posted by cruiser Sorry JF, you have really lost me on this one. Your self big noting has become boring as has your expectation that everyone should follow the Swans in the same way that you do. I was sitting in the crowd behind you so I guess I was one of those supposed 'cocktail types' but how you define 'cocktail type' is in your own mind. You really should think about supporting different teams if Sydney supporters are such a dissappointment to you both. Last night I loved the sea of red and white around the ground and the noise of the crowd. Sure it wasnt as loud as Freo last week but to say that the Freo supporters last night were louder than the Swans is ridiculous.
You reckoned the crowd was great. I don't. Such is life. No need for such a personally slanted retort. Crowds 1/10 the size have made more noise than last night. That may not worry you. But it darn well if of concern to me.
Of course I'm not refering to people like yourself as regards the 'cockail party' crowd. I'm refering to the people in Friday night Industrie nightclub get-up in about the 3-4 rows behind our area. I'm used to have the Swans Unserved members sitting behind my area at Homebush. We can often make a racket when we get the drum going. Last night it kind of never really got going like it did at matches in the past (ie the day game against Brisbane in 05)
The Melbourne CS manager sweet-talked a couple of the above-mentioned types into giving us another seat. He got the @@@@s & ended up going for Freo out of spite. That is the type of people we had behind us last night.
It all doesn't matter to be honest. Friday night is history. We are into a Grand Final, yet again. We are pretty much injury-free (Crouch aside). Let's all have some fairy bread & get over this and start worrying about Saturday.

The fact of the matter is that when it comes to finals, people can buy blocks of tickets with friends who haven't been before, there are plenty of tickets available for people to see what the game is like etc etc.
If even only 1,000 of the plenty of new watchers of the game decide they want to come back next year and support the Swans regularly, then it's worth the poor atmosphere IMHO. Everyone has to start somewhere, and the finals where tickets are plentiful, and there's the event status to attract Sydneysiders seems to be the way it is.
I'm on the Chandwagon!!!
If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.
well we had a great time up on level 4, in our lounge bar area - some of us had a couple of glasses of Chardonnay (ohh arrh!) - They didnt serve cocktails, But Aussie Ange said the curry was lovely. We saw Ernie Dingo too bo out the back and have the odd coffin nail.
We weren't used to sitting up so high, but the crowd was good and noisy. The Maraca's were a hit (especially with the little kids behind us)
Perhaps the fact that there wasnt the anticipation of having to run out at 3/4 time to line up for a queue ticket etc, as it was totally different to last year. anyway - a good time was had by all - I have lost my voice (and some will say thats a good thing) and we look forward to next week.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

AGE IS ONLY IMPORTANT FOR TWO THINGS - WINE & CHEESE!

I agree, if you want the game to grow it has to start somewhere. Is JF trying to scare people away from the game, or just angry at life. Get over it.
By the way on the other thread where it made JF's 'blood boil', did you possibly think that he may not be a member but like myself is an SCG member and has been to every game this year?
What JF was saying re: seating and making his blood boil is correct. We all had arguments with people who thought that they had seats in the cheersquad area. as it turned out Ticketek double-sold the area.
He was going to walk out at Half-time until I said to him, "Have my seat and I'll sit down the front."
Also
If anyone has a problem with the drumming that happened on Saturday night, give us a break because it is hard to drum to a pack of n00bs behind you and they just sit there and don't cheer and chant (typical badwagon supporters).
I've had my say

Saw Ernie Dingo as well with his E Girl polo on. I though he must of caught the wrong plane.
..And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC
