I've been trying to avoid thinking about it all week. I left the ground as soon as the final siren went (I was in a nest of Eagles and couldn't hack it!) so I hadn't seen any of the medals or the wrap-up. I had recorded it on the PC and today I decided to create the DVD and watch it.

While there was undoubtedly a fair amount of dodgy play in the first half, it didn't seem quite so bad watching it after the fact. The second half was much more how the whole game should've been. A couple of people said that if the Swans had won they would've stolen it - I disagreed at the time and I do even more so now. The game was there for the taking and the boys threw everything into it, especially during the last quarter when the Weagles had run out of puff.

I think we were damned unlucky not to walk away with the silverware.

If you're putting off watching the replay, don't. We have every reason to be proud of how our team fought back so gallantly but in the end the footy gods decided it was their turn.

I too put off watching the replay as I didn't want to hear the Eagles song again but I must agree we did not play as bad as I thought either. We were well and truly in there in the second half especially as we were a player down in Luke Ablett and considering Barry had a ham string. I still say if the Eagles were that much better than us and we had a shocker first half then the difference should have been more than 1 point at the end. Incidentally at least our players had the manners to stay on the ground until after the coach and captain had spoken unlike the Eagles last year who wallked off in the middle of the Paul Roos's speech.

I will NEVER, ever watch it. Our seats were so bad that I didn't see half of it at the ground either. I didn't read a newspaper, watch any sports news on TV or use the internet to look up any football until today. It was a lost opportunity.

I had blocked the game out and can now only just appreciate it.

Loved Goodesy's goal, KIRK'S mark and the way they never gave up. I am soooo proud of them.

I was upset at the final siren, couldn?t bear to stay for the presentations, mainly because there are so many detestable (in)humans in the West Coast team. So Go Swannies and I headed straight for the nearest pub. But I was just so proud of the effort our boys put up that I couldn?t resist taking another look. When I got back to my digs for the night the fox footy replay was just into the third quarter, so I sat down with the Budgie fans and watched. It really was a great game of footy, I just let my imagination take over in the last minute and thought of the Donk marking that kick of Goodes and goaling to win the match. (I?ve now given up on pre match predictions). The only thing I was sorry about was staying to finish my beer and getting in to some conflict with the Budgie fans over commenting on their classless exhibition when being presented with their medals.

At the end of the day I am grateful that I follow a team that gives its guts for us playing the BEST code of football in the world. If you don?t believe that, watch the RL Grand Final and Australia?s elimination in the Association Football World Cup. In comparison to our Grand Final, both were crap.

Disagree with you there, having been at both matches in the flesh. But I will say this much. Both the Swans-Eagles & Australia-Italys were both the sporting highlight AND lowlights of my year. In both scenarios my team was just so close to a glorious glorious victory. Both my teams could taste it. But neither had the ultimate ability to put the final nail in the coffin. The Socceroos without Emerton & Kewell could not penetrate the defence-obsessed Italians with only 10 on the pitch. And the Swans, despite making mistakes yet still making a stirring 3rd & final quarter comeback just could not stick their noses in front in a neck & neck final term.

Both results were ultimately gutwrenching. They were both only minutes away from being the highlights of my sporting life.

I agree with you 100% on this though OR. The AFL Grand Final to the uninitiated spectactor was a marvellous spectacle. Anyone watching footy would the first time would have marvelled at it, especially if they experienced the spine-tingling atmosphere in person.

Still doesn't stop the hurt for us tragics though. The amount of people who said "wasn't it a great game though?!" when I was down there was so goodam frustrating & depressing. Was I supposed to agree with them or something?
