Diff time of day etc etc ... but still, seems RL is alive in Vic
I'm quite astounded by the NRL ratings in Melboirne to be honest. Good luck to the Storm to be honest; they deserve more support & recognition than they get most of the time to be honest.

I was at Fed Square watching the NRL GF. When I got there 20 minutes before kick off there were 150-200 there, mainly embarrassing bogans nuff nuffs & butterballs doing dumb chants. I thought "stuff this. This is embarrassing". So we watched it in the sports bar at Crown Casino which was awesome. people really chanting and yelling. It still felt like we were in a foreign country though. The Undertaker wearing his Roosters jersey did get some strange looks from some people though, wandering what the hell he was wearing.

The astonishing ratings for the NRL indicate that maybe Melbourne & Victoria is NOT the rugby league wasteland people think it is. Either way it is an indication for the media organisation running both the Storm and the NRL to actually get their finger out and start pumping not only money but time & effort into developing an infrastructure for RL in Victoria, something they haven't bothered doing ever since the idea of the Storm & a RL team in Victoria was instigated.

      Honestly...?

It just shows us what we already know, Melbournians LOVE sport! They watch soccer too! The friends I met up with on the weekend admitted they'd turn up to pretty much any kind of sport that was on in Melbourne. They'll watch the league sometimes, but don't worry, Aussie rules is their true love!

FYI, the AFL grand final was not on a long weekend for NSW last year. NRL Prelim's were on during the AFL Grand Final week, and then the Tigers/Cowboys GF was on the following week which was the NSW Long Weekend.

This reply was for an uneducated friend of mine

I always thought the concept of "tribalism" promoted by the NRL was wishy washy marketing guff. But it seems vaguely true. They only support their team, not the game.
