    Spida Gets Closer

    Sizing Up Spida

Spida looks almost set to be a swan in 2007 but the saints seem to be the outsiders to get him. Personally I think Spida is a fantastic ruckman no doubt but I don't think his required, his 32 & we are only going to get about 2 or even 1 year out of him.

Also the amount of $$$ we are offering for a player who has only got about 2 years left maybe 1 year is just stupid. I would rather Gardiner who's 27 & has the ability to once again become one of the AFL's leading ruckman, atleast then we can get about 5 years from him.
Forget about Hall, it's all about Bradshaw

I still dont see why we would get him any other way than the psd.......if he goes to St Kilda, or if they trade for him, good luck to them.

Bugger the idea of a pick for a 2year player...
He ate more cheese, than time allowed

Spider has thrown up a lot of interesting scenario's.

      1. Reportedly Channel 7 are paying him $50,000 if he signs with Sydney to be a "reporter". Now 7 obviously know that a strong Sydney adds a lot of value to the TV rights, so is this extra payment a type of way around the salary cap ? Throws open a real can of worms IMO. TV networks bid for the rights, then load the critical teams with good players on top of that. The comp will be played out by 6 or 7 top teams every year.

      2. Who will be out 2nd ruck. On form you'd almost go for Doyle behind Everitt if Everitt is 1st ruck. Tough call on Jolly.

I was just reading some of the results from the draft camp and i started to wonder....do ya think that if we do get Spida we might also look at his younger brother Andrejs.

He is a bit light at the moment, but he is 193 cm and can play down back or up forward?

Exactly, if anything Everitt will be our second ruckman behind Jolly.

I am pretty excited that we might have three ruckman running aruond next year. Didn't seem to hurt a certain QLD based club during their premiership run.

Let's hope we get him reasonably cheap (ala Nick Davis) or through the PSD and get back OUR cup.

I am not a blind Roos supporter, but whatever he decides along with the club to pay Everitt and give up for him I will support. 2 grand finals and 1 premiership deserves that. I am all for topping up and continuing our success.

You mean Jolly will be our second ruckman. No way you're going to pay Everitt big bucks and played him off the bench. He'll have to earn his money and, hopefully giving Jolly a lesson or two.

I think that regardless of what or who happens next year that Jolly will stay our no. 1 ruckman.

I don't know about that - Jolly has handled Spida quite well in the past.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

A full pre-season and Doyle will be our first choice ruckman. If we get Everitt then it will be him with Doyle coming in...
I dont rate Jolly. His efforts around the ground are weak and some games he can be pathetic in the ruck. He has a few good games, like most AFL players tend to do.
But Doyle showed a lot, especially in the GF when it counted.
I know Jolly had knee issues, but he just never dominates at either end of the ground, whereas Doyle can be thrown up forward.
To see Waters take a mark over Jolly in the GF personified the thought that he is a overrated. He wins the most taps each week because we have the most ball ups/throw ins. Give Cox that many ball ups and he would dominate.
                              But Doyle over Jolly.
