I know Jolly had knee issues, but he just never dominates at either end of the ground, whereas Doyle can be thrown up forward.
I have no idea where you pulled that one from, but whereever it is, remind me not to go there.

Jolly is a Ruck, he did what he was supposed to do ---> Lookie here

He is streets ahead, what is your problem with him?

While we're on the topic, who can define a hitout as opposed to a clearance for me?

it's funny to think how close we came to signing Spida last year. I wonder if he would have made the difference in the Grand Final.

Here's my take, I cannot find an AFL dictionary to back me up.

Ruckmen ----> Hitouts (although anyone can effect a hitout really)
Midfielders (or anyone really) ----> Clearances from a Ruckman's hitouts (ie get it away from the other 34 in a ruck-duel) - And if they are in the middle of the ground (like at the start of play or after a goal), they are called centre-clearances (Not to be confused with shopping centre sales).

I am sure someone smarter than me will call me an idiot now

To keep it simple, a hit out is a tap from a bounce or throw up and a clearance is a player who wins the ball and clears it to advantage from a hit out. That player could also be the ruckman who contested the ruck.

Doyle had a better final series than Jolly. And Doyle has the ability to lift his game to another level if he stays uninjured.
The only time we got the better of WC in both finals was when Doyle was rucking. Cox just caned Jolly. Always does. At least Doyle nullified him.

Jolly is a great ruck, but I think the workload took its toll this year.

If memory serves me correctly, and it usually doesn't, Doyle was a rather high draft pick was he not?

Agree. With ruckmen it is hard to define their value based on pure stats. Anyone watching the GF would see that Cox dominated Jolly. Physically, mentally and probably spiritually. Jolly was nowhere. I know you have to put it into the context of Jolly having a good year overall, but...the test for him is next year. Assert yourself for Cliff's sake, Darren. Get some ar@@@le in you. I somehow think though, Darren would prefer to discuss disposable vs cloth nappies than get angry about his humiliation in the GF.

We took him on the father/son rule so we used a pick in the 20's.

However he was rated amongst the top10 in that draft and the top rated ruckman.

All three of those guys were very injury prone though. Often only one of them would be fit to play. Hopefully now that Doyle has 'filled out', he won't be as succeptable to injury.
