I feel let down by the players

I'm sick of all the bulldust, of all the "I'm so proud of the way they came back, any other team would have folded" bollocks. Fact of the matter is that the team did not turn up until half time. They did not have the passion, the intensity, the surety, or the skills of the WCE for the better part of the day. Hall seems to have taken it to heart, and a few more should too. For professional athletes, many of whom had done it all before, they were collectively woeful. For all the spirit of Bloods drivel, they came out and played like a cocky, ill-prepared reserves side until it was too late. Sure they rallied well but in a GF that is not always going to work. A never say die frame of mind has to start before you are on life support - there almost seemed to be an attitude of until we cannot win we will win, because we have the spirit to come back from anywhere. Well boys, it did not work. The GF summed up the year pretty well. The hunger was there when all was to be lost, but until them many were prepared to cruise.

As for Roos' comments, that one out of two aint bad, that the Eagles probably deserved it as much as the Swans, that the result was good for football, and the I'm not a career coach and I'll leave when all the good players go so as not to tarnish my reputation by having to do it tough with a bunch of kids that have had no exposure at AFL level because I let the players pick their mates - @@@@ off Paul. People on here, and elsewhere, are struggling with the result - just read through the threads. Shattered, depressed, despondent. Paul's attitude is "Meh". I find it insulting to the passionate to the real fans. Even if he does not really care, at least he could say that he was hurting for the benefit of those that are. Poor form Paul. The whole we both deserved, one win each, balance in the universe crap just goes to show that he again he refuses to take responsibility. Cosmic forces conspire - "it's not my fault".

Overall, disappointed in the players and the coach.

I though Kenny was pretty ordinary on the day also

I don't agree with everything you have said (I am actually pretty grateful for the Premiership last year) but I do agree that Roos' statement that he will "quit when my buddies quit" is a total kick in the guts for everyone except his favourites.

Roos said he wanted to reward senior players by topping up the list as Sydney vies for another flag.

"I want to give Kirky, Barry Hall and Leo Barry the opportunity to be able to play (more finals) again while they are at the footy club," Roos said.

"They've given so much to us, we as a coaching group want to give something back to them. If that is a ruckman that can help us get back to September action next year and they are all for it, then it's my obligation to them to make it happen."

Wow. The reserves can just eat @@@@ I guess.

I don't entirley agree, but generally yes.

I'm proud of the way they did crawl their way back, but in saying that I'm dissappointed in their first half. There was nothing doing there about their Blood ethos, but in the 2nd half, you can sense there was intensity. Utterly disappointed with some players who never really stepped up when we really needed it.

But i do agree with the Paul Roos situation "I'll go when they go". Its a slap across the face. Never expected this would come from Roos though.

he only said he would probably go didnt he? and he has never made any secret he is not a career coach, i dont think that matters a hell of a lot, i dont feel it is a slap in the face, at least he is honest. If anything he was talking more of his bond with the current group of players and thats why he keeps coaching.

I dont know and i dont care right now, i dont know if i feel let down just p@@@ off. The swans did play badly in the first half, but the eagles were @@@@ hot early, they were too quick for us but its all ifs and buts, im sure the players the hurt, we saw them hurt and they feel they let the club down, dont know what people want? them all to come personally apologise?

they had a pretty average year a lot of the time, yet still made the grand final and almost won, not a bad premiership defence.

There has been much conjecture that corporate management has deteriored because CEOs are too focused on the short term, motivated as they are to maximise share prices so they can sell their options. The "tomorrow be buggered because I won't be around" phenomenon.

I can seen many parallels here. Roos' comments are ill considered and ill timed. They have the capacity to do much damage to the club.

However, I get the sense that Mr Sensible is currently being none too sensible. For example, he's also been quoted as saying he will not trade our first and second round draft picks.

Maybe he is just psychologically @@@@@@ up and doesn't have a clue what to do now.

We'll know in about two weeks time.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

If Baz kicked 2 feet to the left at one point, we wouldn't be having this silly conversation!

One point! Sure we played bad in the first half, the WCE played great! Sure in the second half we played great, and the WCE were buggered.

Roos did what many WCE players (read Cox, Cousins, Hunter) didn't, and showed some grace.

And the reserves can eat whatever they want, until there is a place for them in the senior side.

You guys need to lighten up.

I said in a previous thread that I hoped Roos was drunk when he came up with that retirement comment. I find it puzzling and disturbing as a member so imagine what the young players must be thinking.

There are 15 players aged about 18-21 currently outside the seniors squad who may be looking forward to learning their AFL careers under Roos who is undoubtedly a successful and highly regarded coach.

It sends totally the wrong message to the recent draftees and may ensure a few decide to look elsewhere for an opportunity.

I also find it concerning that player empowerment extends to the leadership group deciding who comes and goes during trade week. Surely this is a major conflict of interest for players like Ben Mathews and Jude Bolton who could/should be considered for trades (not expressing opinion here, just reflecting general tone of the various trade threads).

Finally, while I am proud of the comeback and spirit showed in the second half I can't help but think if the entire team played with the urgency of Ted Richards on Saturday we would be toasting back to back flags. So, Lobster I share your anger in part.

i really think people should take what roos says to the media with a little more salt.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

I'm with you timthefish. I don't even bother watching Roos' media conferences, can't understand why some people get so worked up by hanging on his every word.
Anyway with a fraction more luck on Saturday this thread wouldn't exist.

I don't feel let down by the players, but I do think they've got noone to blame but themselves. If we had put in a better first half we would almost certainly be premiers. If Bazza had kicked those two sitters, and/or Monty hadn't fumbled in the goalsquare, we would almost certainly have won. But I think its presumptuous in the extreme to say that the players were cocky or didn't have the passion.

I've got no problem with Roos' comments.

                              YOU FEEL LET DOWN....

oh for goodness sake, this is why we have AA meetings to get up and share why the world was so cruel to you.....

The players gave their all, yes the made mistakes and so did the wet toast, they go away with the win and are no better than us. We have the ability to fight it out for a few years to come and hopefully by then we all might just grow up a little....
