Feeling the love for Kirky

I love Brett Kirk. Heart & soul of the club. His will, fight, commitment, attack on the ball, words of encouragement to fellow Bloods and never say die attitude in the GF was the main reason we came within a point of the Wet Toast EGirls. I could not keep my eyes off this superhuman in the last half, such was his belief in willing the boys on to victory and getting first use of the footy at clearances in the last half.

Unbelievable game from an unbelievable player. Talk about getting the most of yourself and pushing yourself to the point of exhaustion and beyond.

Reminds myself of Paul "King" Kelly and is now my equal favourite player ever to wear a Swans jumper along with Kelly.

NB: My apologies if Kirky's game has been discussed in previous posts. I have just logged on and couldn't be bothered scrolling threads for snippets on the little champion !!

who are we to criticise Jolly's choice of his family over his career?!?! it's a totally personal choice. and who's to say it affected him at all ... he still might have played a shocker so just becasue kirk played great doesn't mean he would put his career before his family - he just didn't need to choose.

Just thought I'd pass on the thoughts of an Essendon supporting mates view of Brett Kirk's game in the grand final

This thread is to comment on the greats of the AFL. On Saturday we saw possibly the greatest grand final of the modern era (still liked last years tho- as I'm sure did Dan) and we also saw a display of captaincy that shook me to the point of singing in my best marcia voice R E S P ECT!!!!

I always hated the hippy! Ugly head playing in an ugly team running around not doing anything spectacular... 'Til Saturday when he commanded the footy world take notice. Brett Kirk stamped his authorit-eye on that game like I've not seen before. I have had the pleasure of watching one of footies greatest captains in James Hird lick his palms in 3 grand finals yet he still had nothing on Kirk's performance. When Kenelly @@@@@@ up and the Eagles kicked a goal- who was the first on the scene to clear the blue and gold chest bumpers and lend his support- SPecial K thats who! He ran all game and lifted the swannies to new heights when the other captain did @@@@ all. Yes you Barry- Be ashamed! You cost your team that cup. Noone else. As I made the call in the last quarter that Kirky would get the norm smith, the other captain on the other team (not the one involved with the mafia) was clearing everything and played with a dislocated shoulder. Two of the finest captains performances ever. Gentlemen.. Please take a bow!

Sorry to disappoint you - I was present for neither of my two kids births - I was in the hospital mind you. The first one I missed because I'd just done a 28hour shift and was on the phone (responding to being paged) whilst my boy was born. I missed my girl being born because I was told to by my wife, she literally kicked me out - because she knew it was going to get ugly and didn't want me to be there.

It's about choice - Everybody chooses to do the things they do. I chose to answer a page because I deemed it important enough to miss my son being born - and guess what, he's a big boy now, no mental scarring just because I wasn't there at the birth - Even my wife suffers no lasting effects from me not being there - Matter of fact, I doubt she'd remember me being there even if I had been. To put your mind at ease, I also have not suffered any ill-effects from not seeing a baby being born. My second choice at the birth of my girl was to respect my wife's wishes - She'd have been in no state to stop me, yet just her asking was enough to make that choice.

Moral of the story ? It is not as simple as most here make it out to be - there are choices to be made, and the choice is not as simple as family or career. Once a choice is made it is done for a reason - You can speculate all you like what that reason is, you'll never know unless it is your choice to make.

Support Jolly for what he did, support him if he hadn't - He doesn't give a damn about what you think - It was his choice.
