Yep, I thought watching at the time he was one who did get the most out of himself on the day. He really has responded with a big finals series after he appeared to start the season off with a premiership hangover.

Good post, although this Essendon supporter is dreaming if he thinks Hirdy was one of the great Captains of all time. Carey, Kelly, Matthews, Barassi, Nicholls, Reynolds, Farmer, Dyer to name a few are way above Hird AS A CAPTAIN.

To also say Bazza was the only reason the Swans lost by a point, tell him he is dreaming.....For a start, didn't he watch B. Matthews all game and Buchanan's first half !!!! We lost because up to 10 Swans players were terrible in the first half, end of story.

                  Hird was a superb captain.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

I agree - AND A GREAT PLAYER - but not a GREAT CAPTAIN.

Disagree 100% with Cressakel. Ever watched an Anzac day test or any of Hird's grand finals?

The guy is inspirational to his team and club - which is what makes a great captain. He's also been a very good servant of the AFL in terms of building the games profile and conducting himself like a gentleman (unlike Mr Carey).

Should he be taking the 14?

If there was only one Captain would it be Hall or Kirk?

My money would be on Kirk, for all the reasons listed in this thread!
The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.
