At the end of the 2006 season he has played 48 games of AFL football....I love a good luck story as much as the next man, but does anyone actually evaluate a player or are they caught up in the "Young Sydneysider lad turns hand to aussie rules - he's a natural - will become King of the world" story.

I obviously don't rate him as a player. I've only seen him play a handful of decent games including the 2005 GF - everytime I watch that though I can't help but feel the ball bounced his way all day.

He won't be traded, but why not?

Is his continuing selection just a manifestation of how desperately the Swannies need a tall CHB/FB?

Can anyone explain this enigma?

I used to agree with this line of thinking.... (I still can't help but call him sp@stic everytime he's near the ball - Cruel b@stard that I am).....

But I think we would all agree that he does have potential.. He has shown that on a number of occassions and after closely watching him.. and berating him where appropriate.. over the last few years, I feel a lot more confident in his abilities and feel sure he will only get better....

That being said... I still nearly crap my pants everytime I see the ball going to him!! lol...

It was uncontested at the top of the goal square. The only thing that would have been funnier is if he missed the mark completely and it hit him in the face.

I have never seen a "CHB" drop a mark like that.

I think you are being a little bit harsh. From memory it was relatively high and a bit of an arm-stretch. Not always the easiest to take even uncontested.

The thing with LRT is that he has obviously got a good aerobic/ aneaerobic capacity - he's got a good engine.

He was moving backwards....he got two hands on it....it was in front of his eyes.

I'm not saying he was standing there and someone gave him a chest mark from 10m away...but it was simple.

He has good aerobic capacity, he's quick for a big man (though not as quick as alot of his opponents)...he does lack the skills. I'm not blaming him. He's played less that 100 games of football TOTAL. He started late. How many games does he have to play till that is no longer an excuse? - I don't think he's up to it...some agree some disagree - but those who disagree say wait and see...Can he wait in the Reserves?...

When you throw your opponent to the ground (he was a few metres behind him) - you are left standing by yourself.

It was either a free or uncontested.

Like Steve Waugh once said to Herschell Gibbs....."You've just dropped the World Cup".

That was one of the easiest spilled marks I've ever seen.

The umpy would have paid a free against LRT if he marked it. The push out of Embley was a 50/50 call.

LRT did the team thing by creating a spillage, instead of giving away a free. Smart player.


Of course, LRT's major weakness is his forward line play. As a tall defender he's very good. He can pinch hit in the ruck, but when he goes forward the best he can be is a decoy.
I think he and the swans will work on that side of his game next year, thereby giving us real "hunter-like" option of defender to forward when things arent working.

That said, his running goal, outpacing the defender, straightening up on his right foot, and just getting the kick away just before the tackle was inspirational stuff. Certainly better than any of Halls goals.
