The candidates were then approached (headhunted) and interviewed.
So I wouldn't say they actually applied formally, as I didn't see any ads. If there were I would have applied.
Good luck to Ross.spriteComment

Does Jonas and Lyon jumping ship from a club that has made two consecutive Grand Finals make anyone else wonder if there's something imperfect about the coaches' box? It'll be interesting to see if Roos without his Premiership winning Assistants performs better than Blight at St Kilda without being carried by Neil Craig.
How does Roos respond when asked if he personally has any shortcomings as a coach:

It's a team thing, listen players after a game - "we didn't execute the game"; "we didn't.....etc etc"
A nervous season coming up!
I overheard Roosy say "@@@k it" once, so therefore does this mean he is going to quit soon.
So just get over itspriteComment

Ross Lyon was interviewed on MMM tonight. When asked what Roos said when he found out another AC was possibly going to leave. He said it wasn't Roos he was worried about it was what Colless said. ( with a bit of a giggle)
He never through his hat in the ring. St Kilda asked him to present, as they thought he had the right amount of experience.Comment

Sanecow seems to have some kind of problem with Roos - is he privy to some information that I don't know about? Pray tell - let's have it?
Let's look at the record since the guy took over for god's sake. As a supporter, I'd have to say I'm happy. Winning this year's GF would have been fab, but hey we were two points away from back to back.
What the hell does Sanecow want the guy to do, that he isn't doing now. And does he think anybody else could do better - apart from himself (Wallace perhaps?)
Its so easy to trash people in these situations. I think its petty and ridiculous. Is Sanecow a real fan? Maybe he's one of the thousands of fans who thinks he'd be a better coach than the real coach, living in a delusional paradise.
And Sanecow is who, when he doesn't have a RWO moniker? Silvagni? Rodney Eade perhaps, full of bitterness? How many AFL/VFL games has he played?
Jesus, let's back the coach. He's done alright by us. This sort of sentiment annoys the hell out of me.lachlancComment

Beautifully said lachlanc, the man has had something close to a 65% winning record since taking over the senior coaching role at Sydney, and was IMO the biggest factor behind us winning our first flag in 72 years. Some people aren't happy when we're losing, and seem even less happy when we're winningComment

And another thing, why is it that some consider Roos to be above any criticism at all? Surely when 2 assistant coaches go and another tried very hard to go this thread raises a legitimate question. Especially when this has to be disruptive to the club. If being a real fan means not being allowed to question Roos, criticise Kirk or go out in the sun without a member's cap, I'm happy to stay on tha bandwagon.Comment

fair enough....but think about the corporate world. in any successful company, all the top executives under the CEO are always in demand from competitors, and that's what's happened to us - its not necessarily because Roos is bad to work with, its because he's been incredibly successful and other clubs want a piece of what's he's got, and what his team - including the assistants - has got.
I'm not saying he's above criticism, I'm just saying some of the criticism here is infantile, jealous and ridiculous. Are they legends of the code? How much do they really know about football? I've played heaps of AFL in South Australia, but no-one has ever heard of me. Has anyone heard of you? Why are you such a guru? Is it because of all the beer you've drunk watching replays? Do you think you could have won the GF if you'd been in the coaches box?
i think you people really need to think about what you want. you either want a successful club or you want to be like St. Kilda where they've been ripping each other apart for years. Sure, Roos is no god - he's got his foibles like everyone else. But I think its pointless and unworthy of us all to go on like this.lachlancComment
