I go back to my original post: the GF showed up our lack of pace in the midfield (it cost us a Premiership as we had to wait until they got tired). Spriggs is very fast and he is apparently playing very well. So why would we delist him? Is his disposal still awful?

Disposal could not be worse than "Choker Bolton" who certainly isn't one of our pacy midfielders.

Good question but if he had a future at the club, surely he would have played in the seniors this year.

Injury-prone, hasn't bulked up sufficiently, being outstripped by younger ruckmen... surely those things justify him being delisted.

I believe I read somewhere that Moore had signed for another 2 years so he aint going anywhere.

Looking through the list if one wanted to be brutally honest the following should happen:

            Off the list.

Bevan - certainly not seen in the top 22, although an emergency for the GF. Proved that he is a very loose conveyance in defence at best and is far too slow for the midfield. Surely you cant have him above say Laidlaw in 2007 as a preferred defender. You would think with our game style that a running defender is the preferred option, and besides Crouch is back in 2007.

            Paul Chambers - gone

Mathew Davis - Has not come on? Is still only 20. Sounds a bit in the mould of Mark Powell.

Andrew Ericksen - Injury plagued. How long do you hang on to a project player. Is a ruckman and we have just recruited one for 2 years.

Ben Mathews - Yes I know he is one of the favoured sons but he is 28 in 2007 but a very old 28. His form slipped terribly in the second half of 2006 (injury aside) and I can only think they played him in the GF because he is a rich mans Bevan. Cant see him keeping up with the pace of the game. He looked a lost soul in the GF.

David Spriggs - purely because he didn't play a game. Sounds like he has a lot to offer in the leadership area, so why not keep him at the club more in a playing coaching role with the 2's.

Luke Vogels - seems to be simply a tall back up player. Still only 23 but I feel Grundy is the preferred backup tall and I dont think Luke has it as a backman.

Josh Willoughby - Has not been given a chance. Phillips elevated to the 1's tells a story but I am not sure if Josh was injured at the time. One of the Adelaide clubs might pick him up with a very late draft pick. He just seems way too far down the pecking order at the Swans.

            Williams retired.

So there are 9 to chew over. I think for our future we need to start culling those who are not going to be GF value in 2007/8 and bring in another few to the 1's like we did in 2006. Looks like Simpkin is promoted and so should Phillips and Rowe (tall back).

Bevan went within an ace of playing in the GF. He will be one of the first changes next season. He is courageous, fast and learns. He is also young. I think he is a must in the side next season.

the problem with bevan is he is mainly considered a tagger with a great tackling ability. he will struggle to get back into a side already 3 taggers in kirk, ablett and mcveigh. however if one of these 3 were to be injured look to see bevan back in the ones as a replacement.

McVeigh only really became a tagger late in the season. He kicked over 20 goals for the year, mostly playing as a HFF-come-opportunistic goal kicker. I think Roos has been playing him on some of the best midfielders to teach him what it takes to play at this level. I reckon its a phase he is going through and will become a more offensive player in due course.

Kirk can play a defensive role, and is at his best when he has someone to mind, but is a genuine ball winner too.

Ablett is a player who I think could become more consistently damaging if he was freed up a bit. His tagging results have been mixed - some very good, some where he's been shown up - and I'd love to see him being given a bit more latitude.

Last year the Swans announced their delistings on 28 October

I'm sure that's just how the club would want to announce the delistings.
