Yep, Terry Wallace. Employed that rubbish at the Bulldogs and now at Richmond.

Andrew Demetriou has a lot to answer for when he publicly labelled us the "ugly ducklings" of the AFL.

IIRC, we made him look like a real @@@@head by making him publicly eat his words in September 2005.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Basically declared "open season" for all the hacks. Although I reckon he was most open in his concessions that he was proven wrong later in the season.

In his defence, (did I just say that), wasn't that after the StKilda game down there? You could've hardly argued then.....

I am starting to feel a bit weird that this has become such a long discussion point, nearly two years ago and we here all know it is garbage.

Wheelie, I'm never gunna get over the fact that tool called us ugly ducklings.

Sure, we might have been at the time, but there was no reason behind him coming right out and saying it to the media. I think he learnt a lesson, cause I don't think he's ever commented on any particular team like that since.

IMO, as the CEO of the AFL, it was in very poor taste for him to make the remark in the first instance.

We won the GF that year, so with the added value of hindsight, I'll always take an opportunity to pass him salt to eat his words.

Point being made is that the media continue to brand us in that light. It has a lot to do with that particular comment. I didn't quite catch Demetriou making the same statment about Richmond's deplorable demonstartion of "football" against Adelaide this season. That was left up to the maniacal mind of one K. Sheedy to brand it "Basketball crap".

And Carlton are still champions, Collingwood never do anything wrong, the draw is weighted towards Sydney, Chris Judd wants to come back to Victoria, Buckley is not an arrogant twat..... blah, blah, blah

                        Flooders????

                        I call us Pioneers....

Flooding.. or getting players behind the ball... or pushing numbers back.. or whatever the F@ck you want to call it is a legitimate, within the rules tactic...

Everyone's just p^ssed at it because we win with it and execute it properly....
I'll happily watch us "flood" all day if it results in 4 points to us..

It's all part of the evolution of football.

Flooding is a tactic the same way as the huddle, Pagan's paddock, Loose man in defence, etc are a type of tactic. Weren't these all classified as "genius" moves by the coaches responsible???

But more importantly, if all Sydney does is flood and it's a "crap" tactic/game of football, why haven't they worked out how to beat it???

Surely the question that must be asked is of the opposing coaches... Not of Roos or Sydney....

They know what we're going to do, that's half the battle over.. So why can't they defeat us??? If they know our "crap" style of play, they should be able to beat us.... Why isn't the media pointing the finger at these other teams???

I agree with everything you've said, and I would say the reason is one word "discipline", West Coast have shown that you have to be disciplined for FOUR WHOLE QUARTERS, others have thought if they can break our "flood" early they can then revert to their own game plan, and we grind back into the game, West Coast seem to accept it will be a grind and get in the clinches with us, hence great matches.

If anyone tells me the Swans are the only side that floods, I tell them about Hurricane Katrina. I tell them how the US media claimed the black people "looted" any stuff they found, but the white people "found" it.

It makes the point pretty succinctly.

It does at that. Nice way of putting it.

The Swans are still trying to shake the flooding tag, borne from the Eade days.

As Tuco said earlier, good to see the media backing off a bit.
