There is no "I" in team, regardless if you are the best or worst player a result (even a GF) does not depend on the impact of one player on a game. In my experience of playing and watching Australian Rules, it is actually the players ranked from the bottom 1-7 players that determines the result of a game.

If Hall is playing what-ifs, maybe's and what-not over and over in his mind for the rest of his life, ditto to Ted Richards' kick that went out on the full in the last qtr when there was a two on two contest ahead with free space for the small men to gather and convert, Roberts-Thomson's first qtr on Hansen, Goodesy's first half, Buchanan's sh** the bed that resulted in a Judd goal and many more passages of play that constituted the Swans losing the GF.

Absolutely ridiculous to assume Hall is to blame and, even worse, he hasn't produced in the last two September's. I assume amnesia had set in and the journo in question was not at the GF last year and the finals against West Coast and Fremantle this year.

NB: The only time I have had a feeling that the Swans would win the flag before (and during) a season started was last year (2005) and now next year (2007). Bring it on Bazza, you star.
He actually performed well as a 20 year old in St. Kilda's Grand Final in '97. He may have missed some sitters in this GF but had a hand in 4 goals. No-one talks about them though.

That he did. IMO though, it just wasn't enough at the time.
At least he has admitted (albeit a month later) that he had a shocker that day and will try better next time.
I think we're all still a little tender after losing the GF !!
The grieving process takes a long time for some people, and it's only been a month. (Can you believe it??)
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

It's convenient for the experts to forget those.

Jeff Wells in Tele today not happy with Hall and his comments and Swans in general in today's paper.

I want to see the Swans players come out and say we will be out to win next year it makes us want to try harder in 2007.
                Love those Swans

I read that too - Jeff Wells should just go back to his retirement (god only knows why they brought him back from it!). He says he's a Swans fan, but not much of a Barry fan it seems.

Baz had a shocker, but he wasnt on his own there (but that doesnt seem to matter nor are they subject to the crap that Baz cops). And no one knows how much pressure he had actually placed upon himself. He feels that he let the side down and like any human being - yes Wells he is human - he has taken it badly. So be it. Time to move on - bring 2007.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

Jump down my throat if you must people, but I agree with Walls.

So no more sensitivity seminars for Big Bad Barry. He is constantly scragged by the opposition and robbed by the umpires, but his profile and pay packet are his compensation. And his obligation to his club is to be smart enough to make himself a media asset, not a liability.
You ALL know it has to happen.
He knows it's gotta happen. The club knows it's gotta happen.

A lot of quite reasonable comments in that.

I'm with you on this Annie. Hall has been found wanting in some big games and his response has been less than mature. On the other hand, he has done an incredibly good job of turning his natural aggression into footy attack instead of reportable offences. The ONLY way he can prove his critics wrong is on the field and I think he'll come out firing next season. Anything else will continue what he sees as his "failure".

I tend to agree with you Bloods.

I normally don't like Wells or his columns but he is spot on about the Swans and their media strategy.

It's all very well to have puff pieces about the bloods code and a weekly profile piece on Captain Kirk, Jolly's baby or some up and coming star spoon fed to the complient Sydney media, but as the club and Sydney market matures they have to expect criticism as well.

Barry deserved some criticism - instead of facing it he went into hiding. As a captain that's not really good enough... would Ricky Ponting get away with avoiding the media after getting out for a duck?

If this is a sign that the Sydney media is going to start being more critical of the Swans, rather than an adjunct of the cheer squad, then it is probably a good thing.
