The Irish are not very happy. According to their news reports the game was "yet again marred by violence", though they seem more upset by the tackle (legal in our game) that saw an Irishman stretchered off than in the stupid flare-ups in the first term (which seemed to be as much the making of the Irish as the Australians).

Surprisingly, Selwood's shirtfront has barely got a mention here.

But again, according to local news, the future of the series is in question.

I think this is a bit of a smokescreen.

People who don't know much about football talk about it, but those that follow GAA were flat out embarassed by the performance.

When I was talking about the game at work the irish lads faces just went red and there was a bit of head shaking. The fighting didn't get alot of a mention.

What is the media going to say, -"Our lads suck... will never be good enough."

The match was like watching a reserves team play the senior side. I can't see this changing quickly. Who wants to go and embarass themselves for their country every year?

The future of the series is in doubt, but not because of fighting.

(Players should be suspended for IR matches for incidents in IR matches. Would stop it soon enough.)

He really battered them in that conference. Particularly loved the bit when he was questioned about ROK:

"Did it come up on the screen? Yes or no, because I tell you what, you won't see it - because you get blinded by your passion," Sheedy said.

"Ask him (Ireland coach Sean Boylan) why our player was head-butted, why Lappin was deliberately kneed in the back and the same with Brown - ask him those questions."

Sheedy didn't hold back did he? Like you said I don't always agree with him, can't usually stand listening to his press conferences to be honest. It's almost as if the restrictions that are put on what they can say here, are lifted over there. He was actually allowed to call it as he saw it.

You didn't look very hard did you? I saw it detailed in numerous articles and websites.

Anyone who agrees with Sheedy is a bit off the money I reckon. Who hear can honestly name one match in the home and away season that has been remotely that violent recently? Not one match. If it happened here the AFL would be up in arms, thousands of dollars of fines would be handed out and many, many weeks of suspensions. The Aussies seem to think they can release their pent-up violence from the year for when playing Ireland.

And the idea that we're having sourgrapes because we aren't good enough is hardly going to stand up to scrutiny since Australia has only won it once more than us and lost the first game in a game that was played to the rules.

Wise up.

I stand by what I wrote. I went to three websites after the game. Irish News, the GAA site and RTE. No quotes from Sheedy. The best I could find was "Austrlian Management team denied any allegations of targeting of players, and maintain that it was a good tackle" in an article about the Geraghty tackle on the 6th.

In fact Kevin Sheedy was NOT quoted anywhere that I saw until the 7th of Nov - three days after the match. All I could find were Brennan and Boylan having their say.

Whilst we may have one it only once more than the Irish, there is also an interesting parallel to that. There are now I think 7 occasions that the Irish have threatened to not play the series again, coincidentally the Aussies have won the series 7 times.

Yes there were numerous incidents that would have had players suspended in an AFL match, 2 occasions where players were kneed in the back whilst on the ground, 4-6 weeks, Ryan O'Keefe headbutted behind play 3-4 weeks. Given the provocation, is it any wonder that the Aussies retaliated in the way they did. Interesting to also note that after the 1/4 time break the Irish didn't stoop to those tactics and there were no more fights. A coincidence? I think not.

He was probably watching the same game I was. It looked to me that the Irish didn't have a clue about the difference between a physical contest and a dirty snipe- fest (like kicking and knees in the back and headbutts). The Australians, who very clearly know the difference between a hard hip and shoulder and a kick in the nuts, responded angrily to being the victims of cheap shots and somehow the Irish regard themselves as the victims?

This has been gone over and over on BigFooty. Time to move on. Let's just relish the dominance that the Swans players had on the series. I've always enjoyed the IR games but I'm getting tired of Irish amateurs and amateurism and their holier-than-thou attitude.

Dont you think your comments are a little bias,considering that your irish arent you?The little irish gits got what they deserved with there little cheap shots at the aussies(eg:,head but,knees to the back etc etc)I am grown up i call it as i see it,the irish started it and the aussies finished it.
