Plus, where you picked your cut off points etc etc etc. all very subjective.

    Just my opinion.
I have no idea what your thesis is (or what you think mine is, that you're calling 'nonsense'). The question being debated was: in terms of your chances of picking a winner, is having pick 10 significantly better than pick 50? I was just providing information to help people make up their own minds on that point.

By the time you are lining up at the national draft, you have to select at least 3 players with the picks that you have. It goes without saying that the picks that you have will be determined by a combination of where you finished, and whether you traded in or out any picks in the trade period.

The virtue or otherwise of trading early picks for players is the conclusion (i.e. if pick 50 is about as good as pick 10 at getting a great young 'un, you might as well trade your picks in the teens and 20s for a mature player who fills a need), not the premise.

This has probably been pointed out before but over recent years Sydney has not overly relied upon the draft as the source of our top 25.

Of the players that played (or listed as an emergency) in the 2006 Grand Final, only 10 were selected in the draft without other influences (eg zone, father/son etc) .

The 2006 grand final list and how they ended up on our list is:

      # 1 Hall - trade
      # 2 Davis - trade
      # 3 McVeigh - draft (top 10)
      # 4 Mathews - zone
      # 5 O'Keefe - draft (>50)
      # 6 C. Bolton - PSD (Brisbane "reject")
      # 9 Malceski - draft (>50)
      # 12 Fosdike - draft (top 10)
      # 13 Schnider - draft (>50)
      # 15 Doyle - Father/Son
      # 16 Jolly - trade
      # 17 Kennelly - International Rookie
      # 19 O'Loughlin - draft (>40)
      # 20 Ablett - draft (>20)
      # 21 Barry - zone
      # 24 J. Bolton - draft (top 10)
      # 25 Richards - trade
      # 26 Dempster - Father/Son
      # 30 Roberts-Thompson - Sydney zone
      # 31 Kirk - rookie
      # 32 Buchanan - draft (>50 first time and >40 second time)
      # 37 Goodes - draft (>40)

      Emergencies
      # 8 Spriggs - draft (Geelong and now Sydney reject)
      # 38 Vogels - rookie
      # 42 bevan - rookie

Therefore as others have said, our recruiting staff must have some idea on list management.

      Cheers
