    Promotions: Phillips and Simpkin

With all of the earnest discussion and occasional outrage over the Swans' delistings, there probably hasn't been enough congratulation given to a couple of young blokes who have earned their spot on the senior list. Given the competition, that's no small achievement.

Phillips has proved that it's still not impossible to play senior AFL if you're relatively short and can get blown around by a stiff breeze, if you've got the smarts. Here's hoping that he gets a few games, but manages to stay out of BBBH's way, next year.

Simpkin tends to get ignored a bit because we have so goddamn many young midfielders with potential, but at least has scored an article in the local Warrnambool paper. If he's on the same career trajectory as fellow Colacite and roomie Amon, then we're in for a treat.

So congrats, and here's to a big 2007 from 'em.

I know nothing about Simpkin, but Phillips looks to be made of something special judging by the way he plays when he does get a little game time, perhaps he should do 7 weet-bix instead of 3 though.

I'd be interested in Simpkins' 2006 Report Card for those who saw some of him. I know SFA about him I admit.

I hope Phillips is locked in the gym at the moment!

Good thread. Congrats to Flipper (still driving this bandwagon!) and Jonno Simpkin (Playing style is very Amon Buchananesk for those who haven't seen him) on their promotion.

I still laugh and I have no diea who on this forum said it but prior to the grand finaln we were thinking of worst case senarios if Jolly didn't play and someone said "Phillips"

Man..thats still makes me laugh at the thought of him in the ruck...up against the likes of Cox

Like to see Phillips in a one on one with a Gehrig or someone similiar....he would end up in row V with one bump

Missed the game winner against WC, kicked 1.3 against the tiggers and struggled against Port and Essendon (Hardly top competition)

Most players don't get near the senior action in their first year, unless drafted from another club with experience.

Seriously struggling to see what everyone else sees in him, except he knows how to find ways to consistantly miss easy shots for goal...
                          anyone help me understand????

If you'd seen him play any reserves grade football last year you'd probably understand. He is far from guaranteed from "making it" but he was a stand out in the reserves team, particularly in the first half of the season.

Yep. Outstanding in the ressies. Has solid ball in hand speed, determination. He's also has an excellent goal kicking ability/sense (50 metre goals off one step),reader of the fall of the ball and puts on good defensive pressure. IMO has to find his feet in the forward line full time at AFL level.
