I'd love to see Tasmania and the NT (or the ACT) put teams into the AFL.
Make it a "truly" national comp .. and stick it up the thugbys.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Won't happen. There isn't enough money in either location for them to compete properly. They'd end up the poor cousin whipping boys each season.

I'm ok with that ... it'll take the heat off the victorian teams.
Believe me when I tell you there's plenty of money in Darwin, Tasmania & Canberra. Unfortunately, the facilities to accommodate a reasonable crowd are pretty much non-existant.

No, there's not plenty of money in Tassie. The state government have talked about putting some funds up but won't commit to the long term. Cascade Brewery are the only ones with anywhere near enough financial resource and they aren't keen on that sort of commitment.

As regards facilities, you really should take a trip down there and have a look at Bellerive (apart from Aurora).

Bellerive is an outstanding facility capable of big (for Tassie) crowds but due to the stupid North/South rivalries can only host cricket games. Is largely underused during winter. The footy games have to go to the north.

Let me tell you that the Aurora Facitities are more than capable of being a base for a Tasmanian Team... And if we put as much money into Football as we do hunting foxes there would be more than enough funds... Most players have nothing but praise for Aurora - The football would never go to the south!

But it wont happen because the tasmanian government let alone football Tas are as useless as a one legged man in an ass kicking contest and we would be broke in no time!
Some people say Football is a matter of life and death - I say it's a lot more important than that!

The biggest issue is the North/South rivalry.

If the whole state was behind it, I believe it could work, but it just wont ever happen.

Northerners believe they live in the centre of the universe and Southerner's find it hard to fathom that because Bass is a swing seat, Launceston got hold of AFL matches in front of the capital city.

An AFL team would only ever work being based in Hobart, but we are now stuck with a good stadium in a backwater like Launceston, when it should have always been spent on a major stadium in Hobart.

Quick everyone ... the tasmanians are fighting.
How does it work if one of you have two heads?
                  Is that two against one??

Wow. I had no idea that Tassie had a north/south problem - I've never been there (although I'd love to check it out, I heard it's very pretty). Sounds as bad as Sydney's Eastern Suburbs vs the rest of the state.
To give me a better idea, how long does it take to drive from Launceston to Hobart?

There will be NO civil war in Tasmania today.
Do you hear me you two? Shake hands, or no gold stars on your foreheads.

Two hours - is that all???
                      What's the fuss.
I'd drive two hours to see a footy game. Hell, I've driven 9 hours for a beer.
Is there a town halfway between the two??
Maybe they should put a stadium up there ... keep everyone happy.

actually I have no problem with Hobart - Last weekend I drank their beer, urinated in their toilets and partied with their girls...
I drove two hours for alcohol, girls and a hangover...

I just have a problem with narrow minded people like Damien that think 2 hours is a lifetime away... and because Launceston isn't Hobart it must be boganville!

damn... its the same freakin state!!!!! get over it Damien the footy will always be up north and the Cricket will be down south!

Annie, Thanks but I'm too old for a gold star... And I promise I wont give Damien a belting!
