My eldest at Art School in Melbourne was being quizzed about why she knew about VCA and she started her tale recounting how her High School Art teacher had worked " on the mainland". She said she didn't go any further as everyone was falling about laughing.
To us it's just how you speak.......but they thought it was hilarious. It may be an inferority thing but it is also is a fact of life. Just like the people on Flinders and King Islands call Tassie "the Mainland", island life whether it is Cocos,Norfolk,Kangaroo or wherever has a mindset caused by the geographyand history.Our convict past and the treatmant of the Aboriginal people have given us a sense of inferiority and shame."The Dog days are over, The Dog days are gone" Florence and the MachineComment

as someone who lives in launceston i would have to say its a big dump. When i did the burnie then the other day i was very impressed with the "city" or town. It seems to accepts its a little place and makes the most of it, its well set out and tidy
Launceston has too many people who think it should be the capital city and worry about wether its better than hobart or not. Its full of old buildings and is looking old and run down. It has poetential , but too often people block progress. At least hobart looks like a city and is quite big. The stupid debates ruin opportunities for the state and its bloody frustrating.
The stadium should of been built years ago at hobart showgrounds it would of been very good for cricket and football.Theres not much left to sayComment
