the more I think about the new O'keefe the more it sounds alright. I am happy to admit knowing nothing about him at all, but in 5 years time he would want to be at least as good as Jetta, given that the latter was considered top 10 by most.I wish my weed was EMO so it would cut itselfComment

IIRC on the draft show that 10 covered, Sheehan likened D O'Keefe playing style to Nathan Brown (Richmond). On a website i saw they likened his reading of the play to Luke Hodge.
That sounds promising in itself.
Just wish that Collard lasted till our 3rd rounder...Official Driver Of The "Who Gives A @@@@ As The Player Will Get Delisted Anyway" Bandwagon.

SYDNEY
DANIEL O'KEEFE
No.15 (Geelong Falcons) 18yo 184cm 74kg
Prolific possession-winner with good evasive skills, is strong overhead for his size and smart around goals. He's quick and has good endurance and was a Vic Country under-18 representative. Kicked 32 goals in 16 games for the Falcons this year. From Warrnambool.
DANIEL CURRIE
No.49 (Northern Knights) 17yo 200cm 91kg
Mobile defender-ruckman who fills a need for deeper ruck stocks at Sydney. Had a promising year representing Victoria Metro in the under-18 championships. From Eltham.
PETER FAULKS
No.65 (Calder Cannons) 18yo 192cm 74kg
Bolsters Swans' stock of tall defenders. Recorded the best standing vertical jump overall with a leap of 74 centimetres at the Victorian state screening session, and is quick for his height.
JESSE WHITE
No.79 (Southport) 18yo 196cm 101kg
Tall, strong and mobile youngster who was a former state basketball representative. Swans hope he will develop into key forward or back. Played there and in the ruck at representative level for Queensland in the past two years.
THE CLUB SAYS
"We've got some older tall players, so we were trying to get some young talls into the club. You're looking for the best players initially and as they get ticked off you're starting to talk position versus players. We're pleased with what we got." Paul Roos, coach
Sounds pretty promising to me,fingers crossed. Now this is a thread that i would expect on the ego -centric, wank session that is redandwhiteonline.com...

Regarding the need for a key defender, my suspicion is that young Rowe is ear-marked making another developing SPECIALIST Key defender less of a priority, freeing the recruiting department to choose the best available player instead of the best availble key defender.
He may not even have the talent to make it as a ruckman, much less learning a whole new position as well.Comment

Firstly, welcome to the Swans to all 4 of 'em. Without buying into the whole negativity vs positivity thing, I also share some concerns about the practical results of the strategy the Swans have adopted.
By going with 'best available at all costs' at #15 and getting (oh my freakin' god) another mid, the flow-on effects are substantial. As Paul Roos put it, "You're looking for the best players initially and as they get ticked off you're starting to talk position versus players."
What this means in practice is that-- if you need a net result of 3 talls and a mid-- once you've taken a mid at pick #15, you're locked in to taking talls later on even if they're not terribly good value. (Honestly, could anyone put a % figure on the greater likelihood that Daniel Currie will become a 150-gamer compared with the chance that Earl Shaw would have?) Whereas if you leave your options open by going with the McKenzie/Mitch Brown 'best KPP' strategy at pick 15, you have the freedom to take quality mids/smalls who drop to late in the draft like Peterson and Malcolm Lynch.
Incidentally, Weaver (who is a reliable poster who actually watches games of footy rather than just regurgitating others' opinions) said as follows of our #65 pick:
Peter Faulks struggles with catching the ball in many games. He is a handy key defender, and has many good games. But every third game he gets and attack of the dropsies. I can't see AFL clubs missing that, and can't see them calling his name as a result. His kicking is just adequate as well.
If that's the worst that can be said about him, that's not too bad. Provided his best is good enough (he seems to be saying it is), then Sydney is the perfect environment for him to get greater consistency (while working on his kicking).
Am I gunna be the first guy to say that his nickname absolutely must be Colombo?Comment

Jesse White I think is listed at the same size. With our approach to the ND, our developing KPP strategy is as follows: you just get a whole lot of units who are at least 192cm and can vaguely run and catch, throw 'em against the wall in the ACTAFL for a year or two, and see if any stick.Comment

If you are suggesting that didn't play there...or was @@@@e when he did, then fair enough."I'll acknowledge there are more talented teams in the competition but I won't acknowledge that there is a better team in the competition" Paul Roos March 2005Comment
