New Rule Interpretations and Bazza

I've read that the AFL will be more strict on the push in the back rule for next year. Bazza is one of the main forwards in the league that loves to work his man under the ball using his superior strength to his advantage and take the mark. This new interpretation could really frustrate him (and us).

It could well be a disaster for Sydney - O'Loughlin and Hall are going to have some adjusting to do.

I really don't get where the powers that be think they are taking our game. People bemoan the lack of contested marking in our game nowadays, yet this rule change is another aimed at reduced the tools available to players who want to take contested marks.

It is almost impossible for a player to hold his ground without making some contact to players around him. Do we really want to see one-on-one strength contests taken out of the game? I know I don't.

maybe there has been some confusion and they are talking about the international rules series.....

baz and micky will have to change their styles a little but i have faith in them - perhaps barry moreso than micky in this case as pushing of his man is mick's forte. getting front position will be more important than ever and we might see more leading into space. the rule change will benefit forwards with lower-body strength and good hands and reach so i think o'keefe has just become twice as important to us now. shame noggy can't kick accurately really. will teams go for more height or will we see more leaping into the contest.

i have to say i like the removal of some of the ambiguity/subjectivity of the game. perhaps umpires will now focus their inconsistency on grappling.

maybe the preseason should experiment with a no-holds-barred policy. stop introducing new rules and instead take a few things away.

Hm, i can't see how this rule is actually going to work.

Aswell as being bad for Baz and Micky, it's going to be dreadful for Leo.

i don't think it will be particularly bad for us and not other teams. hall and MOL are extremely skilled players who can adapt as well as many, micky just might have to adapt a little more than most.

AFL football operations manager Adrian Anderson said last night: "As soon as a player puts his hands in the back of an opponent in a marking contest, the umpire shall award a free kick."

How is that going to work? There's going to undless amounts of free kicks being paid.
