    Plugger's Record

Since getting the DVD of his 1300th kick, and borrowing a copy of "Swan Song - the Paul Kelly Story", I'm having a bit of a Plugger nostalgia-fest.

Standing at 1360 goals, do you think his record will ever get broken?
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Nope, never. Lloyd was the only chance, but he's still a long way off and he'd need a few 100+ years, i can't see that happening.

Lloyd may be the only current player who seemed to have a reasonable chance, but it's a big stretch from saying that he won't to saying it will never be beaten.

It will fall eventually, but the game must change again. The days of a true "full-forward" role has gone, the role now usually divided between two or three key forwards (think Hall, MOL and ROK, eg) to carry the load. The game will shift back in time much like how it seemed Coventry's record would stand forever as the role of the forward changed, and then changed back to allow the likes of Dunstall, Ablett and Lockett to wreck havoc on defenders. Give it 50 or so years.

              No.

He was a freak to kick the amount of goals he did, in mainly ordinary sides.

Lloyd is not anywhere near the player Lockett was. He'd have to break Tuck's games record to beat Plugger.

Yeah it could fall but I doubt it. A guy like Fevola could do it. I dont mean Fev will but someone with his ability to kick from outside 50 makes his type of player dangerous everywhere.

I recorded Pluggers game (1300), and the first PF in 96 and went beserk with the premership 2 years ago despite being a Carlton supporter. I litterly shed a tear when he got the record, but thats just me I have a soft spot for people that defy the odds and he was definately one. Just look at him a big boofy and gernerally compared to those around him unfit but @@@@ he could play. Made a mockery of the modern footballers prototype.

It will get broken for sure.

They said Pratt's record would never be broken and it was.

There is a current trend against having one single focal point. That will change and 100 goals a season full forwards will be come common place again.

If you mean Pratts 150 goals ina season record, it has never been broken, it was equalled by Peter Hudson. However, it is interesting to note that it took (I think) 24 games for Hudson, but only 17 for Pratt. Having said that, to kick 150 goals in a season no matter how many games is still remarkable.

Given a full season, Plugger would've smashed that record in '91. He kicked 127 goals in 17 games.

Depends what you mean by 'his record'. If you mean 'most goals in the history of the VFL or AFL competitions', then, like all records it will probably eventually go, but could be expected to last between 20 years and a century; barring changes to the style of the game that take it further away from the realm of the individual goalscorer (which could happen).

If you mean 'most prolific goalscorer in the history of the game (at the top level)', then it already has been (from considerably fewer games than Plugger played).
