Reminder - Footy fix in four weeks

    Hello peoples,

Hope you've all had a nice holiday/Christmas/etc. I successfully managed to stay off the front page of the Herald for yet another year, so my festive season was a success.

Just a reminder to those in Sydney that you can get yer footy fix on Friday 16 February when the Swans 'warm up' for pre-season with a game against the Pies. Usually it's the Bombers but who's complaining.

    North Sydney Oval.

I think you'll get some tix from ticketek in about two-weeks time.

    Not long now eh?

I just cant get very excited about pre-season myself. But come 31 March, I'll be wetting my pants - surely the most exciting round 1 game we've had in many years.

Too true and well engineered, that first round GF rematch.

Myself, well, I always get excited about the Nth Sydney Oval game.

It serves no other purpose other than to let me sit in the bleachers with a beer watching footy.

That's a fix in my books, allbeit less satisfying than 31 March.

I never get to see pre-season matches because they are always played in Sydney, Canberra and places far away from Melbourne.

We dont play these games with a view to winning...so the actual results arent that meaningful

However for me the interest comes from the chance to see (hear about) the newbies - to see whether there is a realistic chance that any of them will find their way into the Senior team during the year or become the next generation of Bloods

Will Nick Malceski become a superstar?

Will the likes of Jarred Moore, Tim Schmidt finally make it?

Will Heath Grundy and Simon Phillips build upon the leaps they took last year?

Or will someone like Laidlaw come from nowhere and make a name for himself?

All this before the realism sets in and most of them are
'relegated' to the fields in Canberra

I would say that, barring injury, Spida is certain to be playing. Any new player (to a team) needs as much mach practice as possible with new team-mates.

Yeah, but now many of his new "team-mates" will actually be playing.

Every pre-season game I've gone to has basically been a reserves match.

I like the way we don't care too much about the pre-season ... it's horrible if someone gets injured.

Saying that, do you reckon Crouchy would be playing the pre-season? Does anyone know how his injuries are coming along?

Where's Layby? We need an update on fitness & training.

It's a great arvo out Nat ... you get to watch the footy in tshirts, shorts and thongs ... a novelty at best!!

... that the pre-season is just "very light entertainment" or the fact that we don't have to wear 23 layers to keep warm while watching the footy???

That the best thing you can say about this game is that it's a novelty.

I'm sure it's a bit of fun and silliness that would make an enjoyable event if you go to it, but other than that it's a bit pointless.

The pre-season is totally pointless .... well, the Ansett Cup (or whatever they call it these days) certainly is.

It's a good arvo out ... pity they don't pull out any of the big guns for any of the games, but we can't afford to have anyone damaged before the home & away series starts.
